Skinny Spaghetti Recipe for Fat Loss

I love pasta and Mediterranean cuisine in general. Actually most of us do, however the delicious pasta and pizza is not the best choice for anyone who is trying to lose weight and/or fat. Luckily we have an awesome substitute for spaghetti that is full of nutrients, high in fibre, and super low in calories.
It is a Spaghetti Squash! YAY!
Just for your information, 1 cup of regular Spaghetti is about 220 calories. 1 cup of Spaghetti Squash is about 40 calories!!! It’s very low calorie pasta substitute that will fill you up thanks to it’s high fibre content.
I have a delicious and simple recipe for you so that you can try your own skinny pasta dinner at home.

Start by preheating the oven for 375 Fahrenheit. Cut the Squash in half lengthwise.

Seed the halves and place them on a baking sheet cut sides down and into the preheated oven. I greased the halves on the inside just a tiny bit with coconut oil. Bake it for about 40 minutes or until you can insert a sharp knife through with just a little resistance.

In the mean time prepare your onion and garlic. You will need one half of onion and about 3-4 cloves of garlic. Chop the onion and garlic and saute for a few minutes with a table spoon of olive oil in a medium size sauce pan.

Add about a handful of little cherry tomato halves and some white mushrooms.

I love my basil plant, because there is nothing better then fresh basil in pasta dish. You can’t even compare it with dried basil. I added about 5-7 small basil leaves into the sauce pan. You want to add the basil towards the end, so that you preserve the fresh flavour.

The last thing is mozzarella cheese. You don’t have to be afraid of a slice of cheese. It won’t make you gain weight or fat, it will only add an amazing flavour to your pasta. It’s all just veggies and 1 slice of cheese. It’s perfect!

Take the Spaghetti Squash halves out of the oven, have it cool down a little and then just take a fork or a spoon and scoop the stringy pulp out on the plate.

The last step is to pour the tomato, mozzarella, basil sauce over the Spaghetti. Done.
Enjoy your meal,
Z.

I just add sauteed onions, garlic and green peppers! Sprinkle Parmesan cheese which is high-flavour and lower in fat and a little salt and lotsa pepper and it's AMAZING!!!!! I love Spaghetti Squash, so I will def try this recipe....thanks Zuz!
Also excellent with homemade pesto!
Yay a yummy veggie recipe :) thanks zuzka . Happy new year :)
I use spaghetti squash all the time! Tonight it has turkey meatballs, spinach and mushrooms with it.
Thanks for the great recipe Zuzka. Looking forward to 2013 and staying healthy with you!!
I still don't understand what squash is! Is it a kind of pumpkin? I think we don't have them in my country...
Love it, Zuzka!
I happen to like spaghetti squash :D
Hi you could try also eggplants instead of squash. it would be even lighter :-). instead of baking the eggplant after you sliced it as small and thin as spaghettis are you can steam them. Giusy
Gionni Bi Gud - yes it's a pumpkin) Wow, never thought about squash in this way, definitely will try it! You could also try brown pasta (made of whole grains sprouts), I found it in a healthy store, they are low in fat and contains a lot of fiber :)
We don't have this squash in sweden :(... :)
if you don't have squash maybe zucchini will do the trick? you can also make pumpkin spaghetti. greetings from poland :)
My friend baked a great tasteful lasagne by using zuccini-slices instead of pasta. Long slices are easily done with the cheese slicer- By peeling the zuccini before slicing it, the green, not-very-pasta-like colour will be away. Unfortunantely I wasn't present to taste it, but i'm sure it will work. Hmm, I think I just got a goood idea for lunch tomorrow! :)
You can also eat the roasted seeds just like Pumpkin seeds! I have made an Avocado dish that goes well with Spaghetti squash. Put one ripe pealed and pitted Avocado with a few cloves of Garlic (to your taste), 4 tablespoons of Greek Yogurt, a few leaves of fresh cilantro, a dash of Lemon zest and a dash of pepper into a blender or food processor blend. Cut a tomato in to thin slices and place some of the Avocado on the Squash and on this add a few slices of the tomato on top! --Chris
This just gave me an idea :D I can pour on top a recipe i got a while back. 1 small can of tomatoe sauce, just add sum stevia ( optional) sum basil, fresh oregano, :) & garlic powder, this spices will make it taste like an "italina flavor: :)
Do you add protein to this recipe? Or does the spaghetti squash have enough? Love this recipe, making it minus the mushrooms for my meal prep dinners!
