What I ate on Tuesday

This beautiful looking dish was my breakfast. It is about 1 cupped hand of cooked oatmeal and another cupped hand of blackberries. I also sprinkled some walnuts over the top and cinnamon. It was very filling and I didn’t need to eat for the next 4 hours or so.

I wasn’t feeling very hungry so I made myself 3 scrambled eggs with handful of mushrooms and 1/2 cup of green peas. The green leaves of romaine lettuce are not just for show. It’s really important to include green leaves into your diet. I like the taste and I like that they fill me up without making me feel heavy. They have many nutrients, vitamins, fibre and are very low in calories.

About 3 hours later I had this little snack out of 1 medium apple, 1 table spoon of peanut butter, a few raisins and I sprinkled the top with shredded coconut. I made it into a lettuce wrap again and it was delicious!

I had my workout about 2 hours later and I was actually shooting the next ZWOW at WIN so Darren went to some place near the studio and got me this peanut butter banana protein shake. It was really good but I was sipping it for like an hour, because it was VERY filling. However I got hungry again about 4 hours later and it was already past 8pm.

Jesse and I went to a restaurant for dinner called Hugo’s and I had this grilled chicken breast with veggies on a whole wheat bun and side salad. I ate all of the chicken and veggies, but only 1/2 of the bun. I felt like it would be too much. We noticed something in the menu and took a picture of it, check it out.

Antibiotic free chicken. Right. And what about the GMO? Now I am a meat eater and so is most of the population and I don’t like to be attacked by vegetarians for being cruel and selfish for eating meat as if I was killing the animals myself, but they might be onto something. Where is the old school traditional farming that does not use hormones and antibiotics to breed animals? For your information there is only one in the United States. The very last one that has completely natural and healthy poultry. It’s a Good Shepherd Poultry Ranch. I won’t even start about the cruelty that goes on in the consumer farming. If there was a way to change that, so that we can go back to the traditional farming and you could participate in making the change, would you?

It's awesome to see you incorporating meat back into your diet. My husband have been eating what people would call a "paleo" diet for the last two years, though I hardly think of it as a diet anymore. It's a way of living and eating whole nutritious foods, grown and produced in the natural way God intended. We have met so many amazing local farmers and families. It's an amazing feeling knowing where your food comes from and how it was raised/grown. We don't eat grains or legumes or dairy except for grass-fed butter. It is so easy to stay healthy and lean eating this way, and I have gotten so much more creative in the kitchen. I just ordered your DVD series, and I love working out with you every Thursday. Keep up the amazing work. I think you have an incredible body, and I love that you actually have strong legs and tush. Some other sites out there (not to name names) seem to advocate being as skinny lean as possible with no legs or ass. Keep it real!
Yes I would participate. I'm going to take chicken and fish (these are the only meats I eat) out of my diet again because I can't support farming practices. It's not the meat I have a problem with, it's what they are injecting these animals with, what they are feeding them to fatten them up for mass production. It's gross and doesn't belong in my body. Other people can eat what they want but I know what my body likes. I need to eat more fruits, veggies, and nuts and seeds anyway!
I agree. Bad farming practices have to go and it would be informative to learn how it can be stopped. : ) I love your meals! They're so healthy but not to the point that they're boring. Please keep the updates coming! www.lungeforchocolate.com
PS Zuzka, pls let me know which of your zwow exercises can help bulk up lower body ie: gluts and quads. I find my top half getting bigger but not so much my bottom half lol
About your traditional farming question. I live in Edmonton Alberta Canada. I feel very lucky because we have more options for organic pasture feed traditional farming with no hormones or antibiotics (exceptions are twice a year if animal actually needs if for illness). I have also been fortunate enough to get to know my farmers through Organic Alberta farm tours and the farmers market. I visited three organic dairy farms and one organic chicken and beef farm. I now know Sherry and Ed by name and only by my meat and eggs through them and my milk is always organic know that I know where it comes from. This is not easy to do and takes time on your part to care about it. But I feel much better knowing and seeing with my own eyes all the great farming that is going on and supporting it all the way! Prior to this I was not eating meat only because I couldn't reassure myself that the animals were being treated fairly. Conventional farming is disgusting and when I talked to each of the Organic farmers they said they originated from conventional farming and quite and started their own farms because they couldn't stand the way the animals were being treated.
Well...that would be ideal. I am vegan, but I don't harass others about their diet. No one likes being preached to.
To the Vegetarians & vegans who find eating meat too confronting or an animal rights/environmental issue: take your politics else where. It's irrefutable that conventional farming practices are horrible and wrong - for animals, humans & the environment. But go rant about it somewhere else - if you don't like that Zuzana eats meat - don't engage with the ZWOW community. Humans were designed to eat meat and if we demand it, there will be better farming practices and more biodynamic options.
by all means I would participate. Every time I buy meat, or poultry I ask myself how this final "product" was treated and If I am eating something not so healthy.
Is Jesse your boyfriend? You always mention him :-)
I feel like I eat a tones of food, comparing to you =///
Z thank you for doing this each day. You have no idea how helpful this is to so many people, and how much people really do appreciate this. This is really the best thing you could do to really help people understand 'how' to eat. I am going to order your DVD series to support you. I am a trainer so they will come in use for sure, but more importantly help you because of all the work you do for free out of the goodness of your heart because you want to make a difference in people's lives. I encourage anyone else who sees the value in what Z does to do the same. It's a small way we can show our appreciation for all that she is doing. Thanks again Z xxx
Thank you for doing this I have been getting great ideas on what to eat. Today I did workout 2 for the first DVD it was amazing
I'm vegetarian because of all the bad stuff that goes into the meat, not to mention the bad treatment of animals, plus factory farming is very bad for the environment. So by not eating meat I feel like I'm doing my part to not contribute to the problem. Yes, I'd definitely go back to the traditional way of farming and I think we'll get there eventually as more people become aware of what's going on with meat. I definitely don't preach or judge those that eat meat, I just do what is best for me and my body. If there was healthy meat out there, then I'd probably eat it.
ZU! I WANT TO KNOW.... WHO IS JESSE!!?
Hello! I just started your workouts a week or so ago, and am absolutely addicted! Just a brief heads up though, I wanted to go to your website, and instead of typing in zuzkalight, I typed in zuzanalight.com and got redirected to the bodyrock website! I felt that was quite sneaky and annoying, since I follow you now, because I prefer your workouts and personality. I hope this helps because perhaps you didn't know! Xxx
I get my meats from an organic, pastured meat CSA—that stands for “Community Supported Agriculture.” It basically means buying directly from the farmer. If any other folks are in Wisconsin (Madison area) the CSA is called The Rustic Table. Their website is at: http://www.therustictable.com/p/csa.html If you go to a farmer directly and you visit the farm, you can get a much better idea of how the animals are actually being treated. We get about 25lbs of meat per month for our household-and we get truly pastured chickens, that get to run around in the sunlight. Truthfully, like Zuzka, I wish I didn’t depend on meat, but I have a thyroid problem (so soy is out) and I don’t tolerate beans in general or grains well anymore. I was vegetarian for almost 20 years, but had to switch to a Paleo-style diet because my digestion became so messed up. (I’m in no way saying that happens to most people who are vegetarian. That’s just what happened to me. After years of terrible IBS and after narrowly missing intestinal surgery, I had to try something else.) But keep in mind that grocery stores with factory farmed meat aren’t the only option. And, much love to you Zuzka, for being brave enough to broach a topic that sometimes creates a lot of strong passions. I appreciate so much what you do for us!
I agree Zuzka!! for those of you on here who are saying that they're going meat free because they don't like factory farming that's awesome, but keep in mind there are probably local farmers in your area that offer pasture raised and grass fed antibiotic and hormone free meats! It's a bit more expensive so a lot of times I just go veg, but I do like a burger or roast chicken now and then, so I just make sure I know where it's coming from. ^_^
PS: I'm not saying my way of eating is the best way by any stretch, but just throwing it out there for like-minded individuals. ^_^
I guess Jesse is not the dog you go to restaurant with :D
I think that plants don't like to die. I also think you should be willing to kill and clean whatever you eat whether that be a chicken, a fish, or a carrot. My neighbors have chickens and roosters. The rooster seem to never know what time of day it is as they are always crowing! Was thinking of doing bees and chickens myself. Another sad story of modern farming practices is honey. Quit posting pretty pictures of food! It's late and you are making me hungry! :-)--Chris
Hi Love the way you eat simply but so healthy. I will be trying a lot of your ideas.

Thanks for sharing! Its nice for people to see how with the proper ingredients you can still eat great food, larger quantities and feel satiated without excess caloric intake!
My family has a small farm for their own needs and my dad frequently sells his excess harvest. I grew up watching my mom slaughter animals and am totally weirded out that people diassociate themselves from meat being a dead animal. There are still many options for healthy meat. If you grocer sells free range local meat ask about the farm and go visit. It is very expensive to get labels like organic and no GMO and many small farmers can't afford to get certified. The best way to know what you're getting is to talk to people.
Hi Zuzka! thank you for the nice ideas that you are sharing with us. I was wondering about dried fruits, what do you think about them? is it healthy to eat dried pineapple pieces instead of other sweets? refering to the sugar content in them? what do you eat when you get your sugar cravings? I try to have small handful of nuts and dried fruits. Please share some ideas about sweets and stuff like that. thnks!
Zuzka, U don't eat much dairy, is it a matter of taste?) i can't leave without cheese, cottage... cottage cheese baked pudding-yammy!))
this is so helpful, thanks!
Hi Zuzka, I'm going to order your DVD's. Thank you so much for your workouts and especially for posts like this. It is really helpful for too much people. I always thought, that I know a lot about exercising and diet, but thanks to you I found out a lot of other things that I didn't know. Thank you sooo much again! You are the best! :-)
You might be right about the very large scale farms, but in many areas there are little farms that treat their animals well and don't give them hormones and antibiotics. My parents have a farm like this and my fridge is full of turkey from them that I know were raised with respect. Please encourage people to check out local sources for meat, and to get to know their farmer as much as they can! They're out there! And they need our support!
Hey Zuzana..I love your vegetarian ideas. Thank you sooo much for taking the time to post your meals. Your dedication and care shows through and I am so grateful to have found you! I too get sickened by the GMOs and horrible treatment of animals. I wrote an article on the food and animal industry in general you might find it useful as a guide: http://feastinthemiddleeast.wordpress.com/2012/04/13/prepping-for-earth-day-and-everyday-buying-the-best-produce-meat-and-seafood-available/
Hi Zuzka, I have an important question to all your meals: Do you count calories? I have to because I am very bad in controll my portion sizes. Do you do or do you just watch for small portions with all your meals and nothing else?
I'm a vegetarian because of the awful conditions in the meat industry. Animals are intelligent, feeling and very friendly creatures. I know of horses who's gotten ulcers because they're bullied by the other horses in the paddock, elephants sometimes die of depression when they lose a baby. Pigs and cows are as intelligent as dogs.. i can't believe what so many of these animals have to go through. The only way i can think of to stop it is to never buy that meat, and if you can't afford the organic, grass fed, well treated meat then maybe you shouldn't eat any until you can afford it.. getting enough protein without meat is easy. Love your site Zuzka
I appreciate that some people feel the need to eat meat and think they are doing a solid by getting non-hormone feed animals, but this doesn't mean that they are being cared for. They still have calves taken away at birth, are stuck pens too small to move, beaks cut off etc. Not to mention the entirely inhumane way that they are stunned and dragged through electrified water to kill them. And if they aren't killed by this point? Then when their throats are slashed, they just bleed out. And all of the naturally produced adrenaline, cortisol and norepinephrine are released into your meat before finally dying. You can buy from a local farm, and sure they have had a happier life, but the end result is still the same for every animal that is slaughtered for human consumption.
Thanks so much for sharing. I really appreciate all your efforts in posting your meals. And I know it makes a huge difference for people to learn 'how' to eat well....Would you say diet is 50% (with excercise 50%) of your results?
I love HUGO's!!! That's one of my absolute favs when I'm in Studio City!
Z, do you drink a protein isolate shakes? In your old recipe you often use a protein, do you do it now?
Hi, I would love it if you can also (hope it's not too much to ask LOL) add in the time you have your meals to your diary? Thanx!!
Zuzka I saw that you didn´t make 5 meals each day... it´s important that we make 3 big meals and 2 snacks? what do you think?
