Be The FitSh*t – Coffee Talk

 | Blog  | 74 Comments

Hey guys,

I did my best to talk about some of the topics you’ve been asking me about. Thank you again for leaving your comments and questions. If you didn’t hear me talking about your question this time, it’s possible I have already replied to you in the comments on the previous Coffee Talk, and if not, I might be covering your topic next time.

This video is dedicated mostly to Intermittent Fasting, (if you want more info about what I was talking about, check out The Every-Other-Day Diet: The Diet That Lets You Eat All You Want (Half the Time) and Keep the Weight OffΒ by Krista Varady) I also share 5 healthy snacks you can make in less than 5 minutes, and also a simple tip for pull up modifications. Then there are some of the sponsorships mixed in – mostly the free clothes I haver received lately. I hope you’ll have fun watching and I hope you have more questions for me to cover next time!

By the way the winner of my last week’s Giveaway is an Instagram account with the handle @UBRodriguez Β – total dude by the way. This couldn’t have been more random πŸ™‚ haha. Oh well, dude’s getting pink bedazzled sneakers from Pink Ivy.

This week’s Giveaway is sponsored byΒ versa-band.comΒ who sent me their base kit for $114 to give to one of you lucky guys. It’s a portable exercise equipment you can hook into your doorway or on a tree and do bunch of bodyweight exercises with it. Just remember, you have to have an Instagram account and follow me @ZuzkaLightΒ – find the Giveaway post and follow the instructions. It’s really simple. I will be picking the winner in my next week’s Coffee Talk the same way I did in this one. Good luck!

P.S. Anyone of you lives in Hawaii? Jesse and I are going there for vacation at the end of this month for my birthday.

Really love this coffee talk, thanks for sharing this with us πŸ™‚ (I liked your natural style, it suits you so well). I start intermittent fasting about 2 weeks ago, for the health benefit and muscle intake and I love it. Also I’m so looking forward to the nutrition plan and the clothing line.
Question : Are you going to have smaller size for petite girl like me (XXS) ? Or adding the exact measurement of the clothing would be perfect.
    Love xxx

Hi Viv, we are considering to include XXS sizes for the new clothing line πŸ™‚ we do offer the exact measurements of the clothing already in the store for the existing products, so the new ones will have that as well.

I find very interesting, that even if I’m not aware of what people is talking about we get to the same subjects. I say this because a few months ago I stumble upon a talk about fastening by searching about Parkinson desease, and I thought: “well this is the opposite of what I’ve been taught”. I had hipoglycemie and I was told to eat 6 times per day. Then I read that by doing so, my body would never learn to be independent, and I started eating 3 times, even though at the beggining I got dizzy, and weak. But after a few months my sugar tests showed that I was fine. Anyway, I tend to eat more than I should, so I got a little overweighted, and after I watch this talk https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4UkZAwKoCP8&t=28s&list=PLFUAwzMNRyxVZJD9KNcyDh77qrnRUpsEq&index=16 I thought I should try intermittent fastening, not just because of weight lost, but because I want to age better and have a healthy brain too. So today, that you are talking about it I though it would be fine to share it. Maybe someone else is wondering about other health benefits about fastening, which is very hard to try but all the scientific studies show that the challenge is worth it.

    Have a nice day.

Thank you for the Coffee Talk this week. I love your ideas for healthy snacks. My favourite breakfast includes steamed brussel sprouts with a poached egg and steamed mushrooms; it keeps me full for hours. Lately I’ve been hearing a lot about Carb-Cycling. Is it similar to earning your carbs? I haven’t researched it yet but I’d be curious to hear your thoughts on it Zuzka and anyone else in the ZGym who has tried it. I am also looking forward to seeing your nutrition plan. Cheers πŸ™‚

I’m currently doing carb cycling. I love it so far. Helps my carb cravings. I still try to earn my carbs on heavy carb days. I’ve lost 4 pounds so far. On day 7.

Thank you so much for talking in length about intermittent fasting! I was patiently waiting all week for the blog because I knew you were going to touch on this topic πŸ™‚ Currently I’ve been trying IF for a few weeks at the 16:8 window, but have noticed a slow down in weight loss (which is perfectly okay) but I’d still like to lose just those last 5 pounds, then it’s maintenance mode time (woo-hoo)! Would you suggest I move to the every other day diet at this point? Also, on the 500 calorie days, what would an example be of what you would eat if you tried it? Lastly, I know you mentioned your so close to launching your meal plan, but do you have an estimated month it might launch? I’m just so excited!!
    Best wishes,
    Katie
P.S. I don’t live in Hawaii but I’ve been to multiple islands and l’d say Kona and Kauai were by far my favorite πŸ™‚

Hi Katie, I do recommend you read the book – I left a link in the post above, and try the every other day IF. My fat loss meal plan is close to launching. I might be able to launch it by the end of this month actually.

I’m glad you mentioned Kauai – that’s where we’ll be for most of the time πŸ™‚

Thank you for covering IF in this coffee talk. I bought the kindle edition of The Every-Other-Day Diet and read it in an evening. Very interesting. I plan to start with it next week. I’m also really looking forward to your fat loss plan.

did the same (though reading in one one evening is not possible…I fall asleep), and plan to start as soon as book is finished.
I did already 24h fasting and I do everyday warrior fasting, so I should be able to manager this EOD variation.
Also I will get my body analyzer out of dust.

            Hi Laila,
I have my book ordered and on the way (I’m old school and like to read books, haha). Do you (or any Zgym member) have thoughts on what you would eat for your 500 calorie days? I really want to start the program soon, but haven’t been able to dive into it yet πŸ™‚ I think I would really like to have at least 2 small meals (and maybe one small snack to make it 3?) on those days to still give myself some variety. Do you have any suggestions on what foods to eat on those days?? Thank you all in advance for your advice! I love this community!!
            Best regards,
            Katie

That is why I ordered from kindle so I can read and start right away. Though I much more prefer paper.
              The book gives many recipes.
Unfortunately they are made for the US (as usual) as mostly using brands.
I think I will go with one recipe (the first one actually-quinoa tuna salad which I just tried). I am already used to drink BP coffee in morning, workout at lunch, eat at 2pm, but the hard part will be just a snack until bed
I think I will take it gradually just to get used to what to expect and do it on MO,wed, Fri, and be off on weekends.

I exercise regularly and doing push ups for long time ago but still don’t see nice muscle definition in my upper body … i really want to have necely shapped muscles like yours) Could the problem be with my eatting habits which is not as clean as you reccomend.. could the Every Other Day Diet Help with loosing some fat and see result ?
    I hope you understand me)
Thank you for who you are and what you do for us.. love you!

Hi Iri – nice name btw.. that depends. Do you workout daily? Are you able to keep up with my high intensity routines? Can you do 20 regular push ups in a row? There’s a difference between exercising and training your body. If you’re someone who’s strong and works out a lot and you can’t see much definition, you can fix that with your diet. I would make sure to include more veggies – make sure you eat green veggies each day, less fruit, cut out all sugar including pasta, bread and starchy carbs. You can have the Ezekiel bread as a healthy source of whole grains, or quinoa, and some brown and black rice. The every other day diet will help you lose fat, which can result in more muscle definition, but you still have to keep up with your training and make sure you’re eating good quality food and that your diet is well balanced.

So nice to read from you! I do keep up with you and can do 20 regular push ups in a row. I am the one who train with you every day without any excuse.. so it specially makes me so upset..
But i have got your point about diet and adding veggies and cutting down sugar etc. .. it will be hard i understand but i will not Give Up )
I will keep in touch and let you know when i get there to my goal ))
        Lots of love!

By the way you mentioned fruits may be one of my mistakes is that i eat a lot of fruits no bananas but apples a lot and in the night thinking there is no harm in apples ..

Adding a little bit of fruit to your diet is healthy. Adding too much has the opposite effect because of the sugar content. I can suggest you to stick to 1 portion of fruit a day and stick to berries, apples, oranges, peaches, and cherries. Add a lot of veggies into your daily diet instead.

I’ve always been curious when people say “add a lot of veggies”. About how many cups a day would be adequate? For example, if you had it with a meal, say with chicken, would 2 cups be enough? Too much?? And would you consume that amount at each main meal like breakfast and dinner. I guess I’m just more curious about the range of how many cups per day are good for fat loss and muscle toning πŸ™‚

I’m soo excited to see the new meal plan. I have been following you now for 8 years. The best 8 years ever. Its amazing how much I look forward to the daily workouts and the sanity they bring me. These workouts over the years have kept me toned and thin even after having 4 kids. However, I just don’t seem to be getting the muscle definition I’d like. I really want my abs to pop. I have cut out sugars and I eat low carbs. Could it be that I just need more protein to help me reach my goal? Thanks for all you do. Love ya

I’m not sure, I would need to see what do you mean by low carbs… Sometimes people think that eating breakfast cereal that says “whole grain” on the pack is low carb. I can’t assume that your low carb idea of eating is the same as mine. I don’t know if you should increase protein, if I don’t know how much or what quality protein you’re already adding to your diet… Either way, whatever you’re doing right now is clearly not working out for you so something needs to change. You have to experiment with different foods.

Thank you soo much for your response. I follow your way of eating as close as I can. I do eat steel cut oats , quiona, sweet potatoes, chickpeas. Those are really the only carbs I eat. I’ve never been able to find any protein supplements that don’t make me sick. So I stick to whole foods. I will continue trying new things. Like I said your workouts have kept me lean and toned. Im 5’8 ,120 lbs ,12% body fat. I just want abs like yours. But, who doesn’t want your abs. πŸ™‚ Lol. Thanks for all you do . You’re the best!!

Hi Zuzka! I love your coffee talk! 😍 I’ve watched you eating my amazing chia musli with Greek yogurt, mango and blueberries! Not really a fast diet, eh!
I’m waiting for your diet plan, I’m sure it will help me a lot as a guide nutrition even if I’m in good shape (but we can always improve, isn’t it?).
I have an IMPORTANT QUESTION : I started your KETTLEBELL PGM and I wonder if, when I ‘ll finish it could I substitute KB beginner workout with your not beginner KB workout and follow the same plan?
I hope it’s clear my question! Sorry for my english πŸ™ƒ

Hi Barbara, your question makes total sense and you can try to substitute with the regular KB workouts. I would only do one slight change to the program – instead of doing 2 regular KB workouts on Saturdays (it would be too much doing high intensity training twice, it’s only ok with the beginner workouts) I would chose doing one or two workouts from he beginner series. I hope this is clear πŸ™‚

thanks for the question (that got answered) because I wondered the same. I am currently doing the “no-equipment program” and the schedule is 6 workouts out of 7. The last day is a Stretch and tone.
I need to get back using weights , I miss the sandbag styles because it was more versatile (and softer on your body) , portable. I have had pelvic issues using the 20kg KB last year so I have mixed feelings about going back to more weights. It has not been used in Zgym , but in previous Z’s gym.
Dang, it sucks when health problem come in the play.

    Hei!

You looked sooo gorgeous in the video that I cannot resist to ask you about your hair (or hair care) rutine. You did one on your skin care and I totally loved it. Therefore, I would like to see one about your hair routine too.

Also I have one issue and have no idea where to ask about it so I will do it here πŸ™‚
So far, I have bought all of your clothes (which I totally adore, by the way) and am very exited to buy the upcoming items (especially sweatpants). But the issue is that I am quite tall girl (178 cm, I think it should be about 5.8′ in feet), skinny (about 58 kg, which is about 128 lbs.) with very long legs and arms. For you to imagine how long they are – your hoodies’ (size S) sleeves covers only halv way up my palm (well, actually, less than that πŸ˜€ ). For me buying clothes is a problem. I cannot allow myself to buy clothes on internet, because my sad experience had showed me, that they just turns out to be to short on me. I took a big risk when buying your hoody, was very nervous all the way till it arrived to me in Norway. Thank God (and this Gods’ name is Zuzka πŸ˜€ ) they where not too short. Could you please, please, please consider my request that there would be an option for extra long pants (and other items) as I’m pretty sure there are lots of girls here on the site with the same problem as I have. Thank you in advance!

    Many kisses, XO

Everybody does IF. I have my dinner at 7 in the evening and breakfast at 9 in the morning. That means I do 14 hour fast every day except I just call it ”not eating while a sleep” : ) So why carry on and torture yourself during the day too? 500 calories per day is not fasting anyway, its just very low calorie diet that cuts out tons of calories so of course you going to lose weight but as soon as you start eating normally again it all comes back. A real proper fasting might have some health benefits but mostly for monks living in a monastery with zero stress levels and tons of meditations. If you live in a real world with full time jobs, families etc starving yourself on top of that is not going to do much for your health. All you going to do is increase your cortisol levels which feels fantastic while it lasts. That is until you crash. The fasting diets are all the rage now but to me its just another fad that will go sooner or later. Best to feed your body with whole foods 3 times per day and keep your metabolism and health up and running. Do the ”fasting” while you sleep : )

To each their own but there is a lot of recent research that shows that IF is very beneficial for weight loss and overall health. (Which is why I was one of several people interested in hearing Zuzka’s thoughts on the subject). Like Zuzka said, it’s not for everybody.

I don’t want to post external links on Zuzka’s website without her permission but you can easily find plenty of research through a Google search with articles from peer reviewed journals that explain the science behind IF. And “fasting” only while sleeping certainly won’t burn as many calories as “fasting” during your waking hours when you’re moving around.
