Blind Acupuncturist

Blog | October 25, 2013

I’ve been wanting to try an acupuncture for a really long time, because so many people here in Los Angeles have been telling me how much it’s been helping them. Even tho I’ve read that acupuncture has really no backing in the modern scientific medicine and the positive effects of this traditional Chinese medicine could be just a result of a placebo, I still wanted to give it a try and see for myself. I have been feeling a little stiffness in my right hamstring lately so I thought it would be a good opportunity to try out something new. I know that we live in a time where everything has to be supported by a scientific research, but have you never experienced something that just can’t be logically or scientifically explained? I did so I keep my mind open.

I did a short video for you guys of this little experience:

It was quite funny, because I thought I was being pranked at first when I saw the blind doctor. Would you not feel a little awkward or slightly uncomfortable if the doctor that suppose to stick needles into your skin was blind? I mean I was a little concerned, but he just seemed very confident and even tho his eyes where completely white, and he did not see a thing, he knew exactly where to shove the needles. After the acupuncture, he grabbed my head and cracked my neck, and then he put me into a knot and cracked my back. Then he told me to turn over, put me in another weird position and cracked my back one more time. It sounds horrible, but it felt really good. I got a massage and then I was offered to use their hot steam, but I refused that because I wanted to avoid the traffic on the way home. That’s something that everyone who lives in Los Angeles has to pay attention to, because during certain hours, our highway turns into a huge parking lot.

Anyways, if you guys want to try this place, I can highly recommend it. Just look up Dr. Hahn in West Hollywood, and if you ever come to Los Angeles, make sure to pay him a visit and tell him that I’ve sent you 🙂

Have a great day!

In China and Japan blind acupuncturists are treasured. They tactically feel so much more than sighted practitioners.

Also, the old schools docs who were trained in China and Japan studied what they call “bone setting”, what we call chiropractic, and they are also able to set broken bones with excellent skill.

He sounds like a gem! I wish I lived closer. As a born and raised Los Angelean, it is still crazy to me that we have to factor in traffic no matter where we go not matter what time it is!!

Um..not usually critical of you, because I think you’re amazing and lovely, but Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture were around thousands of years before western medicine starting deifying itself. Also, they don’t “shove” needles in people (you scared off tens of thousands by saying that), they gently tap the needles and they’re so thin most people don’t really feel them. As a Chiropractor I’m not comfortable with anyone else manipulating the spine like he did, and often it’s not in their scope of practice as something they’re allowed to do in some states, but likely he’s got amazing sense and hands and is trustworthy. The end of your post highly recommended him, but honestly most of the rest of the post was negative enough to discourage people. That’s not really like you.

I’m not even sure what you’re being critical of. That she was nervous? That she was willing to give it a try? Lighten up.

Trying to protect your DC turf?

I’ve broken my neck X2, broken my back, noes, zygomatic bone, false ribs X2… etc etc etc – cage fighting & living life. I train w/ KB’s, bodyweight, rings, Indian clubs – anything that produces results. I’m not sure I believe in meridians, acupuncture, or any of the pseudo science stuff… BUT I do believe in anything that works! I experienced neck pain, back issues, limited shoulder range of motion & fixed it w/ a year of once a week deep tissue massage (really painful!), chiropractor, ashiatsu and movement training w/ Pavel, Steve Maxwell, Eric Cobb DC, Scott Sonnon – so if it works for you GREAT! results are what counts!

I have to agree about the comment on lack of scientific evidence on acupuncture. This is a well established modality of health care that has been around for a heck of a lot longer than Western medicine. I would trust an acupuncturist far more than an MD.

I think it’s terrific that Zuzka tried it out and liked it! :o)

I have no idea which post and video you read/watched but i didnt see anything negative here. Ofc people have concerns with everything new they havent tried before especially when it comes to different kind of Medicine. It would be a bit stupid actually to believe in everything others tell you, sometimes you do have to try it yourself to actually know if it works or not. I havent tried anything like this in my life and this post didnt discourage me at all, better yet, it actually made me want to try it 😉 Obviously the saying- We do not see things as they are, we see things as we are- suits very well here 😀

Oh sry if there are mistakes in my english,im not a native speaker and i usually never comment posts but had a strong need to say something now 😀 Anyways, Zuzka your post is great, youre lovely, keep on going 🙂

Blindness is not a liability. and there is science behind acupuncture if you do some research, but again there is mixed results on the effectiveness of it. –Chris

I wanted to see the naked butt! lol.

Did it help having acupuncture Zuzka? I keep debating with myself if to see a chiropractor. I’ve been training since I was 13, I’m 22 now and I get pains all over, currently sat here typing this, my shoulder blade is aching, and my neck is painful like it needs to click. I think it would be painful but if done by a good practor then should feel amazing afterwards.

I tried acupuncture once when I was a teenager, but I didn’t enjoy it. I wonder if I would have a different experience now? It’s good to keep an open mind, and sometimes just feeling like you’re doing something special for yourself can make you feel better.

I love that you are doing more videos about your life in general, like shopping for Jesse. I remember loving them on bodyrock too because then it felt like we got to know you outside of the workouts and felt like we were exercising with a friend not just a trainer 🙂 hope to see more of these in the future!
