Christmas Meditation and Decoration
Blog | December 18, 2013
There is nothing more soothing then meditation via manual work. I’m not kidding. I had a blast when I had to pile chopped wood for our fireplace next to our house. I love the smell of wood and it was just nice to be outside and moving I guess. I get the same kick out of cleaning our porch from fallen leaves or picking up rotten lemons that fell off of our tree. That maybe also a sign of getting old tho π
I remember not being a big fan of any home chores when I was younger and I remember talking to our neighbor and asking her why does she enjoy her gardening so much. She told me that I will enjoy it too when I’m in her age. Back then I was interested in being social with friends, going for bike rides, motorcycle rides, hiking, going to the lake, making bonfires… ahhhh good times.
I’m not exactly in the stage of my life where I would enjoy gardening. I tried, but it’s still not as much fun as I thought it would be, so I’m still waiting for that to be more joyful. Burpees, pistols, jump rope, and kettlebells are still kicking gardening’s ass in my world.Β
I do enjoy Christmas. I love Christmas and everything related, such as decorations. I feel so relaxed when I sit down on the floor with my box of Christmas nick nacks and a pile of branches from pine trees, and listen to Christmas songs.Β
I am not as creative as some of my friends, but I like to do simple arrangements out of those branches and put them around the house. It’s really nice, because the first thing you smell when you come over to our home…
is a pine tree and not a dog poo. Just kidding. Our dogs smell like roses. Especially this one… haha! I love you Smallsie.
What I’m trying to say is that it’s good to slow down sometimes and just enjoy the simple things in your life that you can do right now. Can there be anything more soothing, then listening to Rudolf the Red Nose Reindeer while putting together nice Christmas decorations for your home? Β And while you’re doing that, think of all the great things that happened to you this year and all the things you can be grateful for and proud of.Β

Oh Z you’re so unique. You made me smile by saying you’re dogs smell like roses. I’m not crafty at all. I’m about to do a Zcut Strength workout and try to wrap up gifts beautifully I got ribbons and everything. Wish me luck!

Zuzka, are there any Czech Christmas traditions you miss or you continue to do?

Hello Zuzka, how are you? I was wondering when your kettle bell DVD will be out? I asked my boyfriend for it for Christmas and he keeps bugging me! Should I tell him he might have to wait till after Christmas to get it for me? I love you! Thanks a bunch now!

Chopping wood on a cold December day is good so is walking thru snow on a back trail. Saw a deer the other day. This time of the year is special. Merry Christmas, Zuzka, Jesse and Smallsie and the rest of the Zpack (especially Charlie!) –Chris

This is why I love you Zuzka! What a great post. You are so right about the meditative effect of these kind of chores (Nigella Lawson says the same kind of thing about repetitive cooking tasks like shelling peas or stirring custard).
And I’m with you with not loving gardening (yet).
Did Jesse have a hand in this post? There’s a beautiful contemplative vibe to it that I love. If he did, great – the two of you are wonderful cowriters. If not I’m sure it’s his influence in your life that has you so mellow.
Now I need some pine branches to perfume my house π
