Confidence and Fitness - Coffee Talk
Blog | October 03, 2013
I haven’t done any coffee talk recently and since I was resting at home after shooting two kettlebell workouts, I decided to do a coffee talk and talk about confidence and fitness. It breaks my heart when I read comments or emails from young women that are struggling with their self confidence and blame their fitness and appearance for it. Don’t get me wrong, I know exactly how it feels when you are out of shape. I’ve been there. I know how it feels, when you think you’re out of shape, while many people around you are telling you otherwise. I know how powerful our mind can be to trick us and make us feel worthless. I also know how powerful and great our mind can be. Watch this coffee talk video, then read on, and if you feel like you want to contribute with your own opinion or thought, please leave a comment.
I believe that confidence has little to do with our appearance or our achievements. I know people that are happy and confident while living very modestly. I also know people who seem to have it all. They’re in great shape, have a lot of money and great success, yet they’re still not happy and lacking self confidence. Do you have any idea how many rich, and beautiful people who are depressed are out there?? It is insane for so many of us to even imagine someone who is in top shape, has a perfect face, and tons of money, being depressed about their life. Yet, it happens all the time. We tent to think that if we only were rich our problems would be gone and we would be happy forever. You don’t think that those rich depressed people thought the same thing, before they became successful? Of course they did. What a surprise it must have been after all those years of striving for better life, that wealth is not what makes them happy!
It’s the same when it comes to your fitness. It helps to be in great shape, just like it helps to be successful, however that by itself will not make you happy or confident if you won’t change your believes and your inner dialog with yourself. Also I want you to realize what a gift it is to have a goal that you can strive for, because the journey is the most exciting thing. You should always enjoy every moment that is between setting up your goal and achieving it. Once you achieve your goal you want to look back and be proud of all you went through, because the achievement itself won’t have enough power to keep you happy and fulfilled for a long time. You will always have to set a new goal and start a new exciting journey.
I have an exercise for you. Write down all of your negative believes and everything that you don’t like about yourself. You’ll be surprised what your mind can come up with. Then you have to make sure that you change every single negative belief into a positive one. I know that it’s not always easy, because you want to be honest with yourself, but being honest doesn’t mean cruel or negative. Instead of thinking: “I’m a lazy slob.” You can decide to think this: “I’m done with laziness, I’m a new person now and I know I can get into the best shape of my life.” See, you don’t need to lie to yourself about your past, but realize that it’s only your past. Every minute is an opportunity for a new life.
Enjoy your workouts and be excited for what’s to come!
Best,
Zuzka.

<3 you Z… you are so beautiful in every way! You nailed it– when it comes to happiness, it has to come from inside. Thank you for all you do, and for encouraging us to strive for more than just fitness, but inner peace and overall wellness! 🙂

Wow! I have been struggling with this just because I put so much pressure on myself to be better, achieve better and look my best. Yet, during this process, the pressure becomes to much that I get easily discouraged and find myself getting impatient and notnenjoyingnthe journey. Everything you said is so so true, and it becomes hard to get out of the rut and just be grateful for what you have and start thinking positively about things. Zuzana, you have been an inspiration for me for a very long time. And when you give these little coffe talks I admire even more, for everything you do and stand for!

It is true that one can be, or appear to be, successful, fit, wealthy and so forth and not be happy or even satisfied with what they have. And you are right when you say that it comes from within; the most truly happy and beautiful people are happy and beautiful inside and it emanates outward.
Some people spend years and lots of time energy and money trying to figure out why they are unhappy, why they can’t like themselves. Would that it was as simple as writing down what you find negative about yourself and making them into positives.
For many people there’s more to it than that and for some of those there is a medicinal component that comes into play. And even then, the walls that have built–out of fear, hate, distrust–do not fall easily. If it’s all you’ve ever known…giving it up is not quick, simple or easy. It is a process…of which getting into better physical shape can be an important part.

It’s funny how the moment you step into a gym and get moving, those walls start to break apart and come down. There’s something so simple and freeing about jumping around like a maniac and trying to keep from toppling over from pistols that just makes you feel like things going on in your life are that much easier to deal with. It’s a day by day process!

Thank you Z for saying exactly what I needed to hear! I’m in the middle of an internship program at the moment and am earning minimum wage and working long hours, but I have to say…I have never been happier. 🙂 It’s funny how the more simple our lives become and the more of a minimalist you become, the happier you get! I LOVE smiling, being happy and encouraging others to get out there and live the life that they imagine for themselves! You’re an inspiration and a blessing Z!

Also if you are wanting to be happy you got to put and want to put yourself in a healthy environment. Where the negative voices are wiped away in your life. That can be hard sometimes, depending on your situation put it can be possible. I m 16 and I look at myself and see things I don’t like, wishing I was smaller like the other girls. Now I have learned to accept myself and achieve my goals. I stay confident and think one day I ll be in my positive environment changing my life and possible the lives around me!

Zuzka, you are the most beautiful person I know of. And I mean that in every possible way, not just your looks.
I’m one of those crazy people that are just happy. I’m piss poor, no job at the moment, no girlfriend, only a small family, few friends, and yet, I’m happy. I have a roof over my head and walls, so I have a home. I have food, not the healthiest, but healthy enough. I’m not in the best shape, but I’m in a reasonable shape and see progress from my workout. Started at 25% bodyfat, currently at 18.2% and trying to get to 16-18%, but I’m happy where it is now, and 78.1% muscle. I have a body and a mind that works.
I don’t care about looking good. I work out to have a strong and functional body. Makes more sence to me.
I need no more than this to be happy, all else is luxury that is not essential, but would ofc be nice.
Thank you Zuzka for being an inspiration for me. I don’t do your workouts, I do my own thing, but you are nevertheless a huge inspiration for me to keep working on being healthier and stronger, both in mind and body.
PS: Zuzka for president of the world? Yes, no? I’d say yes 😀
