How to Deal With Ugly Days
Blog | August 08, 2014
Ugly days is something that affects most people and more commonly women. Actually if you are a human, there is a 99.9% chance that you’ve already experienced and ugly day. I’m sure you’ll be able to relate when I describe what exactly an ugly day is. It’s on that day, when you find yourself in front of a mirror nitpicking everything about the way you look. You’re either feeling too fat, or too skinny, or maybe there’s something about your face that you don’t like. You’re just not feeling pretty and it’s bringing you down. You think there’s something wrong with you and you may even feel worthless. Suddenly it’s starting to make sense that if you were not so fat, ugly, skinny, or had that big nose, you’d be happy. So you start to plot how to fix that. That’s when everything can go really, really wrong. People start to obsess about the way they look and before they know it, they develop body image disorders, eating disorders, anxieties, etc.
That’s why it’s important that we deal with ugly days in a healthy way and take them for what they are – only ugly days. I really love Audrey Hepburn’s Quote – “Happy girls are the prettiest girls”. There is so much wisdom and truth in this simple sentence. If you think about it, have you been ever concerned about the way you look, when you were laughing with your friends, or playing with your kids, or doing the sport that you love? Of course not. During the happy moments of our lives, we all are the most beautiful and confident people in the world. And this is my quote: “happiness is confidence without effort”. Confidence is what makes people charismatic and attractive, and that’s why you have to believe in yourself and be proud of who you are, right? Well, that can take a conscious effort at times, but when you’re happy, your’e already confident and charismatic by default.
So the next time you have an ugly day, just realize that there is nothing wrong with YOU. Maybe you’re bored, or maybe you don’t like your current job. You are beautiful, you’re just not having fun for whatever reason. Try to think why you’re not having fun and what can you do to fix that. Just remember that all you are experiencing is nothing more than an ugly day and there are always so many happy days to come.
Best,
Z.

Hey,
do you do sposts when you’re PMSing?
And even more importantly, do you do fitness when you are having your period?
I am sorry about these personal questions, but it hurts when I have my period so when I try to stick with a 30-day plan or a 90-days program I always fail because I completely fall out of my schedule on these days.
Sometimes it takes only 1 day of pain for me to recover, but usually I feel unable to move for around 3-4 days.
Can you advise me something?
Thank you!

Ask your OBGYN. She should be able to give you some advice on what to do to alleviate the pain. I always push through those days and exercise anyway. It makes me feel better. it’s just harder to do. 🙂

Yea, My first day is always the worst. I mean…the worst. I think it’s better to let go if your pain is severe. But if only you can move, at least to for example zyoga or whatever. It makes you feel better!

I use a painkiller on day1 and it is just so hard to do anything the next few days! But I guess I can skip one day when I’m in pain and push through the void feeling the next one. Thank you for your comment.

Zuzka, this is possibly the best thing you have written. Nothing sticks out grammatically, it’s sincere and has a great deal of truth to it. Thanks!

This makes a lot of sense and is so true….being comfortable in your own skin and living in the moment make everyone beautiful.

Poor u. Bags under eyes. Looking fat today. That damn period. Really Zits? Are you really THAT conceited. Give us a break. A little condescending, don’t you think. Ooops. Sorry. Was that word too big? And why are we always in your bedroom? Old habits, I guess…

Hi Zuzka!
What a cute video!
And I just have to say what a wonderful inspiration you are!
I’ve been a fan since you were on bodyrock (and could tell you were meant for so much better!), followed you on the very first ZWOW, and have read about your personal struggles on your journey to get where you are, a woman of strength, compassion, integrity, and down-to-earth insight with a beautiful soul. I absolutely lovelovelove your workouts, and am always happy when you do posts like this one; stuff we all do and struggle with, but we can put it in perspective together. 🙂
Thanks for being awesome! And I can’t wait to see what’s next. 🙂
