Wishing Zuzka a smooth and full recovery! Thank you for showing us the need to slow down and take care of ourselves.
Thank you Jacqui for having Zuzka’s back & filling in for us. We welcome you with strong and suportive Zgym arms!

I have been working out with Zuzka since November 2015, and I would say I’m quite consistent- I do workout every day, here and there miss a day and do a different activity. I look at working out as a part of my daily routine so I just get it done basically, but I have to say I just rarely look forward to it. This is not to say I don’t like the workouts, or don’t enjoy them, but I can’t say I’m super excited to do them, which I see many Zgym members are. Lately I am wondering if I need to break a routine and try something different, like a different sport or activity. I don’t think it is a motivation issue, as I still get my workouts done.
This has nothing to do with this coffee talk, but I guess I’m just wondering if anyone feels the same or had a plateau phase (if that’s even a thing).

I’m sure it’s different for everyone…but for me, there are several things that get me excited. For one, the new workouts — to me, I’m always eager to see what new moves there might be, OR how I do at a combination of moves I haven’t tried before. For the older workouts, I get excited to see if I can do any better than last time…especially if there’s an exercise in particular that I’ve been working on. While I don’t have a competitive nature at all, I’m *extremely* self-competitive (Heh, the flip side is that I can be harsh on myself. ) It makes me happy when I see improvements! π
But there are some days where I don’t necessarily feel like I’m looking forward to the workout for the day (I’m sure everyone has those days…some more than others). If it’s because I’m busy, sometimes I combat that by either swapping out with a shorter workout for the day, or just telling myself “It’s only 15 minutes!” (Ok, so that doesn’t change the attitude, per se…but I use it to get myself going! π ) What I’ve found very helpful for myself (and I don’t do it every week, but I like doing it now and then) — I like to slip in a day where I do a totally different workout, just to shake things up a bit — usually mountain biking or by challenging myself creatively by coming up with a kickboxing routine for the day. Whatever the case, it’s an activity that I’m passionate about. (I hope to add climbing or kayaking into the mix at some point!!) I find that when I swap one day like that, I’m typically eager to get back into the daily workouts here! I know everyone’s different…but that’s what seems to work for me! π

Hi Christin, I appreciate your reply!
The “it’s only 15 minutes” is my go-to for sure π I like the idea of swapping a day or two with a different activity, it definitely makes it more exciting. Also, I agree that it’s normal to not feel like working out every day, so I probably make it worse by thinking that I “should” be excited to workout every day. You mention you do an activity that you’re passionate about and I think that’s a good point. I think I haven’t found the one I am truly passionate about, so that’s something I could explore more.

Ha ha, PLUS people are more inclined to comment when they *are* excited rather on non-pumped-up days. I know I am! π
There’s a lot of variety in extra activities out there — sometimes the one that hits the spot comes unexpectedly. Ha ha, my husband found one that clicked for him from an experiment I was doing one day: I figured I could use our elliptical machine with our video game console hooked up in front! Video gaming while “running” is now the highlight of his mornings! π I hope you find something that slips in beautifully for you, helps you mix things up, and creates excitement! π

I love you Zuzka!! I hope you feel better soon! I think you are really being smart here. Life happens. No one goes through life without hurting themselves in some way. Thank you for being an example for all of us! And I have always been so grateful for how much you care about us, Z, to the point that you’ll do whatever you can to deliver content to all of us! Thank you!
And thank you so much Jaqui!! You are doing a huge service to all of us and Zuzka! I appreciate it so much!

How wonderful to have a friend like Jacqui to keep you covered!βΊοΈ (And close, too! Heh, all my friends are so far away) I’m looking forward to working out with her! …and I hope you come to a full recovery, quickly!!! I wonder if during your recovery, you could share with us (maybe with a coffee talk? Articles?) some of the things in addition to your postural therapy that you’re doing to aide in recovery. What kinds of workouts you are doing in the interim?
My husband’s in a recovery situation that’s been very frustrating. He fell on a hiking trail (jogging it) and we think that’s what started the injury. It’s been YEARS, though, and we feel like we’ve tried just about everything. Chiro, frequent massage (they said it’s a wonder he’s moving!), even got an MRI. His hip/glutes are extremely tight and there’s compensation going on, messing up one thing after another. Through it all, he’s continuing to workout, but pretty much limiting it to elliptical. He’s been very depressed, though, not being able to go on the runs he loves so much (adding onto depression of losing his job. π Ugh, no fun). I’m trying to get him to do some of the postural therapy routines…and I’ll keep on working on showing him some of the moves (ha ha, and making sure he does ’em! π ) But I’d sure be curious as to any other tips you might have as you, yourself, recover! And I’ll be showing him, for sure! π

Hi Christin, postural therapy is the way to go here. Especially since all the other things failed to deliver results.. maybe have your hubby do the postural therapy at an actual Egoscue clinic. It feels like men need an authority to guide them through the treatment, they don’t usually believe in self recovery and healing too much. I’m not sure how expensive it is, it won’t be cheap probably, but I really believe it might help him. Check out https://www.egoscue.com/getting-started/ and maybe do even a YouTube search for the Egoscue method, they had a video series about a real patient that showed the stages of the treatment.

I keep getting that gut feeling that the postural therapy routines would be very helpful. Unfortunately, we’re not in a position right now for making it to a clinic (we’re penny pinching with the reduced income. Looks like the closest is about 2 hrs away…whew!)…but FORTUNATELY there are a lot of routines *here* for that! π In the meantime, we’ll have to be picking those out. I’ve been wondering lately if he’d be more inclined to do them on a regular basis if I were to do them with him. After all, getting into a set routine is sometimes the hardest part. (AND *I* have some postural issues I need to work out as well! So that would keep myself accountable, as well! π )

Sorry to hear about the unfortunate money situation but I’m sure it’ll improve very soon!
Absolutely, joint joint training (pun not intended) is a great idea. I’m sure he’ll be more willing to lay down on the floor when you’re doing it with him π If you manage to find time every day the routine will settle faster than you’d think. Especially if he’s unemployed and has a free schedule, he’ll look forward to your daily routine together. At least that’s what works for me and what I’d do to get my husband involved. Good luck, let me know how your hubby’s doing on the therapy π

Well, there’s a bright side in it all: I telecommute, so I’m loving having him at home with me! π Getting settled into a routine is the biggest step…and I’m sure, like you said, he’ll be more inclined to do it together! π

Rough luck getting injured! All the best for a speedy rcovery. Very smart to take a break to avoid the chain reaction that frequently comes with injuries. Welcome, Jacqui…I look forward to many new challenges. Zuzka, can you tell us the extent of your injury? You are in such amazing shape it will surely hasten the recovery time.
