Exercise Can Save Our Breasts!
This post today is for us girls- if you’re guy, read on if you want to learn a thing or two that you can share with someone special in your life. Otherwise, let’s get to a serious topic that us women cannot ignore:
Breast Cancer.
Just saying that is frightening. And while October is the time of Halloween, it’s also National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. [1]
According to the American Cancer Society, it’s been estimated that up to 40, 610 women will die from breast cancer this year, with there being more than 3.1 million women in the United States having a history with breast cancer. [2] This is all the more reason to take a proactive approach towards screening for and preventing breast cancer.
Luckily, there are many things we can do at home to stay as healthy as we can. One of which is exercise.
The American Cancer Society has suggested that, based on growing evidence, “Women who get regular physical activity have a 10%-25% lower risk of breast cancer compared to women who are inactive, with stronger evidence for postmenopausal than premenopausal women.” [2]
And if you have been diagnosed, “Regular exercise lowers the risk of breast cancer coming back, as well as reducing the risk of ever being diagnosed with breast cancer.” [3]
All the more reason to make exercise a part of your lifestyle; picking up a sport, engaging in outdoor activities, working out, or joining a gym or program (like those found in ZGYM).
Exercise can also help us to maintain a healthy weight, as it’s been found that obese women have a higher risk of developing breast cancer when compared to women who have maintained a healthy weight. [3] The more fat you carry, the more of the hormone estrogen will be found in the body, which have the potential to cause hormone-receptor- positive breast cancer tumors to grow. [4]
Exercising regularly also keeps our immune system strong, which is a key part of prevention. Whenever we exercise, we increase circulation throughout our entire body, including our Lymphatic System, which plays a vital role in immunity. [5]
There’s a saying that goes, “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.” Cancer is very devious, and can attack even the healthiest of people. But that doesn’t mean we abandon all hope and let ourselves deteriorate. I strongly believe that no matter what, it’s still important to support our body in the best way that we can. And exercise is just one of the most preventative things we can do to stay as far away from cancer as possible.

Thanks for this! Ladies it is so important to stay on top of your exams. This June I was diagnosed with non invasive breast cancer. It was a huge shock when I got that call. It all started with a biopsy of some calcifications, which led to atypical cell findings, which led to a lumpectomy to explore the area, which led to the finding of a tumor.
After the finding I had to do another lumpectomy to make sure they got it all. Although I am grateful it was found by accident and early, it was nonetheless scary! My mom had breast cancer and my dad died of pancreatic cancer after her treatment ended.
I have several friends, one who passed away, that have fought breast cancer in late 30’s and early 40’s. I myself premenopausal, don’t drink, don’t smoke, healthy weight, workout on a regular basis. Basically not the norm. My doctors are not happy that I decided to take a ‘wait and see’ approach & not do radiation or hormone therapy. I felt for me, the side affects of those treatments outweigh the benefits.
Be your own advocate. Know your body, and get your regular health check ups. Your health should ALWAYS your number 1 priority. 🙂

Tanya, you sound similar to me, but I don’t have any lumps.

I was diagnosed with DCIS in Aug 2014 and bought that because of its documented and known ability to kill cancer.
It’s the good-for-us radiation of far infrared light. By overheating the cells (105 to 108), they simply die off.
I don’t have any symptoms, though three little spots showed I have stage 0 cancer. But, my surgeon plainly said that the hothouse dome (in that link) “kills cancer.”
I don’t want to have more biopsies and have decided that I can be okay with the level of exercise, healthful eating and the hothouse dome that I incorporate in my day. I’m also taking 50mg of iodine every day, more fats and way less sugar and dairy, flour and yeast, than before 2014. At 56, I also have 3 kids (28, 26 and 25) that need me to be an example, and so I let their input on my health plan affect my choices. When they found out, the 1 thing they all said was: “Mom, do NOOOOOT do the chemo and radiation. PLEASE do NOT DO THAT. It is a scam.” .. Well, for some it works, but I agreed that it is far more poisonous to our bodies, so I was primed to step aside from the traditional approaches. When my “Western Medicine” (his words) surgeon (St Luke’s Tumor Institute in Boise) told me that the hothouse kills cancer, I knew two things: 1) he was an expert in his field of cancer diagnosis and treatment, who proved that I was carrying cancer, and 2) that he had confirmed my choice in health care was not going to be traditional when he said to me, twice in 5 minutes, “that [hothouse dome] kills cancer.”
I use the dome all winter, and less in summer, but a bit if I’m physically sore from exercise, or just seeming to catch any crud going around – and it stops all of that pain and sickness (for me / I’m rarely sick). But I also used it a minimum of 5 hours a day from the time I got it in September 2014, until about September 2017. So, for 3 years I used it without lettup because I really wanted to be sure I was working to kill the cancer. I believe I have only because I have heard numerous reports from the makers of the hothouse, and friends, who report that their use of the dome killed the cancer in hours or even 2 weeks. ..
Friday, my boss reported that she has stage 1 cancer in her right breast and when I went to share my thoughts on this, she said: “I don’t believe anything you’re telling me.” …. : …. This kind of disease is real and people need real facts, so I am sharing my experience to let you all know that something besides the traditional stuff is available and does work. I’m still here….. and don’t have symptoms.

My doctor has switched me from annual 3D mammograms to doing breast MRI and ultrasound every six months. My exercise and healthy diet helps, but she says my family history of cancer plus my breast tissue being denser than 90% of the population (even after pregnancy and breastfeeding) puts me at a high risk. That and I have a suspicious spot that has been biopsied before, but so far is ok.

Cancer is a lottery. I doubt exercise and diet play significant role. In fact if you look around most people who get cancers are the slim ones with healthy life style. Nobody knows what causes cancer.

We are all born with cancer cells. Cancer feeds of sugar in the body… There is no one set reason or way for people to get cancer. It is also hereditary. But certain foods can help prevent cancer and certain foods can help it “come alive”

No we are not born with cancer cells. Cancer cells are cells that have forgotten to ‘destroy’ themselves when their regulating DNA is damaged. They start to divide/multiply uncontrolled. Aging and lifestyle can promote / decrease the risc of getting cancer.

yep – my doctor spoke about that – though it’s common sense.
also, sugar feeds it, but fat starves it

If what I heard is correct, what causes people to get cancer is hormone imbalance in the body that allows the cancer cells to grow. Deepak Chopra did a very good interview with Tony Robbins on this. Once I started metformin and stuff I didn’t realize was wrong with my started clearing up (less sweating, fine lines dissapearing, stopped getting pimples entirely, weight dropping off) I realized what hormone imbalances look like on the outside. I think getting genes methylated and regular bloodwork shows what parts of your system could be at risk for cancers. Epigenetic research companies sell gene methylation kits for these purposes. Could also help catch dementia genes (there is a pharmaceutical that protects from alzheimers as well.)

to some extend it is a lottery, but lifestyle is key. Food is medicine. if you eat crap, your body will tell one day or another (and what you breathe and too much sun exposure, etc..). Being slim doesn’t mean you are healthy. There is an epidemic of cancer in western countries, so lifestyle does matter.

Ive also heard that wearing very tight/constricting underwire bras can promote unhealthy breast tissue leaving it more vulnerable for disease. It makes sense if you think about the blood flow to our breasts being reduced/constricted due to the bra and not having enough lymph to fully replenish and revitalize the tissue. Don’t know about you ladies- but the bra is the first thing that comes off when I get home 😉

yep.. me too… I like sports bras that I can just put a thin, modesty pad in..

yep. off the bra…and no bra when at home (on week-ends or working from home). This is one of the reasons I love being small breasted: I can totally live without. or I wear unconstricting padded bra because I don’t like the look of tits showing off.

I take metformin, a diabetic drug that prevents many types of cancers but especially breast cancer. I speak to a doctor through facebook groups who has studied metformin’s cancer-fighting effects for years. She discovered the power of metformin when she and several other researchers were studying a group of older women with breast cancer. The type 2 diabetic women were living longer and getting better, while the non-diabetic women were getting worse. Turns out it was the metformin the diabetic women were taking that was causing the improvements 🙂 Metformin gave me so much of my life back and now I do not need to worry about cancer. It is a miracle drug.

18 yr working in clinical trials field (for a vendor, not on the pharma side) and I can tell that science is moving. Each cancer and person is different , so the treatment will be too and trend is to make it patient specific.
I can only state (personal) that quality of life is the key…eat organic (no pesticide, no herbicid, no GMO), non-processed food.
Next spring I will eat wild food (I bought a few books and harvest in the wilderness, being a biologist and nature-lover, will greatly help and just goes with what our ancestors did -ie. “cave-men”).
