My Evening Cup of Tea

Health | February 17, 2015

As much as I love my bulletproof coffee in the morning, I’m also a big fan of tea, specifically green tea. The soft, subtle taste and the relaxing nature of a nice warm cup of tea is often the perfect drink in the evening when I’m winding down. Green tea also has a lot less caffeine than coffee or even black tea. I don’t have to worry too much about it keeping me awake at night either. Of course, don’t take my word for it. Caffeine affects people differently so don’t brew up an inspired pot at night after reading this and then blame me for tossing and turning all night!

Unlike coffee, tea has been around for thousands of years. According to legend, the origins of tea begin in 2737 B.C (more than 4000 years ago!). A breeze blew stray leaves into a pot of boiling water for a Chinese emperor named Shen Nung who was also an herbalist. He kept the leaves in the pot and took the first sips of what is now known as tea. True or not, there’s a certain romance in knowing that a simple cup of tea has so much history behind it. It’s cool to think that we are sharing sips with centuries of different people from all over the world.

Aside from history and relaxation, green tea offers a variety of health benefits. According to the University of Maryland Medical Center, out of all the teas available – black, green, oolong, etc. – green tea has the highest concentration of polyphenols. Polyphenols are antioxidants that combat a variety of things including illnesses and the aging process.

An issue of the Harvard Women’s Health Watch also explained that green tea battles bad LDL cholesterol and increases good HDL cholesterol. Green tea also increased circulation by opening up arteries and improving how they function. A group of Chinese researchers published a study in the Archives of Internal Medicine that demonstrated a dramatic decrease in the risk of hypertension among green tea drinkers as well.

Are you fan of tea? What kinds of teas do you enjoy?

I’m a big fan of green tea too! But I also love red tea and rooibos 🙂 I’m addicted to coffee, but I can’t drink it all day long, so I switch to tea around for 4.00 p.m

My favorite is also rooibos 🙂
but I can’t drink it in the evening otherwise I can’t sleep (I just keep waking to go to the toilet). I do wake up everynight, at least once (this night was three times), to go to the toilet, it’s terrible! But I was always like that, I wish I could just go to bed and wake up the other day 🙂
So, tea only until 6 pm for me

I don’t usually drink tea, but I just received teami blends, because I needed to try it when you introduced us to them! I love to wake up and spend some time with the tea. Also in the evening its so nice and relaxing to enjoy a warm cup. I’m sure I’m going to stick to the tea even after the teami blends. I don’t enjoy green tea as much because it always taste very bitter to me, but mybe I will try it with lemon or something. I actually like to add coconut oil to a tea. I can’t drink too much coffee because it irritates my stomach, although I love bulletproof. Green tea with coconut oil maybe a good substitute:-)
P.S I love the picture and your strainer(?)

Green tea can be bitter if it is brewed incorrectly. I believe that if the water is too hot it can make the tea taste bitter. Try using water that is hot but not boiling. I’m not a tea expert, but I’m sure that you can find one on the internet! Adding just a bit of honey also helps with the bitterness.

I will try the honey. Also it might be the quality of the tea…?

I would assume that higher quality tea would have better flavor. Maybe a green tea blend would be more palatable for you? I really like when there’s a little bit of mint flavor in green tea – it’s very refreshing. Happy tea hunting =)

I am a big fan of spearmint or peppermint tea. I also love licorice root, especially during cold season. I am highly sensitive to caffeine so even green tea causes bladder spasms for me. Anything stronger and I am a peeing machine and as hyper as a four year old.

Mmmmmm, tea! Being a Brit we love our tea – i like a cup at teatime – Tetley tea, milk, two sugars lol…but my tea these days since i discovered Intermittent Fasting 8 months ago is nettle tea with no milk or sugar. I find it subtle and it’s good for the body i believe.

I’ve never tried green tea…It’s on my shopping list for tomorrow though.

A gorgeous photo if i may say so….i love photography!

Same here big fan of green tea, ginger tea and peppermint! Living in Britain we drink tea all day :))) I used to love English tea especially Tetley but since I gave up milk I don’t like it that much coconut milk doesn’t give it that nice mellow flavour. Having worked in cafes I’m pretty expert at making any specific teas and coffees strong, milky, weak, frothy, flat you name it I have a special relationship with these drinks <3

I am a fan of tea also, it can be any type of tea. I am specially in love with Moroccan mint tea, green tea with jasmine, chamomile, honey (or anything else), chai (my husband is Indian so chai is must here!), peppermint tea, lemon with lime or ginger, flowers with fruits flavours, vanilla tea, yerba mate (famous in South America) and many others. I am curious to try Matcha tea, I read many good things about it but didn’t try yet. Also I am planning to buy only leaves once my stock of tea bags get over. The only problem is that I don’t like to drink tea without sugar, so I add few drops of Stevia. I admire people that drinks tea and coffee without any sugar. 🙂

I looooooooove my tea! I have black tea with a little half-and-half and raw honey every morning…usually English Breakfast or Earl Grey. I’ve never liked the taste of coffee, so for me, it’s my morning tea! 😀 I’m not so big on the fruity teas (unless they’re iced!), but I like some of the herbal ones out there. I like switching things up with Tulsi Tea or Nettle Tea (Nettle and honey is SUCH a tasty combo). I’m not a big fan of Green Tea, but I drink it now and then, anyway, knowing how healthy it is! 🙂

I haven’t tried loose leaf teas, but I really want to! One of these days, soon!
