WHY MUSHROOM COFFEE IS THE NEXT SUPERFOOD

Health | November 01, 2017

What is Mushroom Coffee?

Mushroom-infused coffee is one of the latest health food trends, quickly becoming a new caffeine substitute which offers its drinkers lots of nutrients! Made with edible, non-hallucinogenic mushroom, the drink is created by liquefying and drying these mushrooms into a powder which is then combined with regular coffee.

Four Sigmatic, the company which first founded this mushroom-flavored caffeine craze, believes that their coffee contains almost the same properties as regular coffee, only better. In fact, Four Sigmatic’s president, Tero Isokauppila was quoted saying that mushroom coffee is the “world’s healthiest coffee.”

So What Makes it a Superfood?

Mushrooms are full of antioxidants and Vitamin D and can help control blood-sugar levels, while the alkaline Chaga mushroom can neutralize the coffee acid, which is known to cause upset stomachs amongst a majority of coffee drinkers, and support good digestive health/ward off bacteria and viruses.

These mushrooms are known for supposedly being able to improve one’s metabolism and fight back against Alzheimer’s. Other added benefits include the ability to curb insomnia and anxiety, something regular coffee just cannot do.

Most coffee lovers out there are well aware of the benefits that their favorite drink has to offer. But with those benefits often comes some unwanted side effects. Four Sigmatic claims that their product can offer consumers the same caffeine effects, like strengthening your brain power and boosting efficiency, all while eliminating most of the downsides.

Enjoy the coffee without the crash? Sounds almost too good to be true!

According to Cynthia Sass, RD, a contributing editor of Health magazine, the claims made about mushroom coffee isn’t all that out there; “There is some research to show that the maitake mushroom may lower blood glucose in patients with type 2 diabetes,” she was reported saying.

**While there is plenty of research to back up the medicinal benefits of mushrooms, and some records show them being used in China as early as 100 AD, please make sure you do plenty of your own research before starting to fill up your diet with fungi. Mushrooms can worsen your condition or affect your medication.

I was going to ask if you’ve tried this product! Good timing 🙂 I’ve been thinking for a few weeks about ordering this stuff, but it’s a bit pricey. How have you been feeling since trying Foursigmatic?

This is so cool! I just saw this.. interestingly, I got some of this coffee the week prior to. I don’t know if its a placebo or what, but I do feel a little bit of a difference with this coffee (lion’s mane and chaga). Anyway, I like it.. tastes yummy.
