Are You a Carb Addict? There is a cure...
Fitness | August 24, 2015
I think that one of the most common comments I read from people is about their love for carbohydrates and their struggle trying to avoid eating these in your diet. I’m talking about those delicious, crunchy breads… sweet, savory cookies… _________. The answer is: Yes. I do eat these foods BUT they’re not free. Here’s a video to help explain…
I had a lot of fun shooting this video, I definitely made sure to shoot one of my X workouts because some of these shots needed more than one take so I ate a lot of bread and ice cream for the sake of being funny 😉
In all seriousness though, earning your carbs is a great way to enjoy the foods you crave while staying on track with your fitness and weightloss goals. Nothing tastes better than when you earn it after pushing yourself through an intense workout! Trust. Me.
If you’re addicted to carbs and want to see how strict you should be about your carb intake, try taking the Carbohydrate Tolerance Test.
If you aren’t already familiar with how I break down my meals on a regular basis, read more about my FM (Free Meal) and (WEM) Workout Earned Meals. It also includes a list of benefits from a controlled low carb diet.
Let me know what you think! Have you ever been caught eating ice cream in your closet or hiding crackers under your pillow? Share your struggles with carb addiction, we are here to help! 🙂

LOL I had a good laugh watching this and I was nodding through out the whole video. I’m a recovering bulimic and am much much better than I was two years ago except for carb cravings but they are not as frequent as they used to be. Well, peanut butter sandwich is a weakness but it’s worth the taste.
Just one question Zuzka, are you off keto now?

Maryam I am also a recovering bulimic (still struggle with restricting food groups/food). I’m curious to know if you find that allowing yourself to eat all foods rather than placing any off-limits helps or do you follow an eating regiment? Thanks!

Hi Hayley,
I think besides my mindset and emotional stability and whatnot, I find that there are foods that trigger a binge and then a relapse into a bulimic cycle. To me these foods are generally refined carbs and anything that contains sugar. So I do place a limit on those two things in particular (as in I never eat them).
Otherwise, I don’t follow a regiment and I eat whole grain carbs and lots of protein with every meal. I think it takes time and a few trials and errors to juggle both goals of recovering from bulimia AND maintaining your fitness. Just remember to alwa be kind to yourself because it’s brave and it isn’t easy. I hope you

All the best ! (Sorry if too long)

Thank you so much for your response! I agree that it takes time, trial and error to figure out what works especially with wanting to avoid being too restrictive but still wanting to be fit and lean. I guess for people recovering from/with eating disorders there is a very fine line between what is healthy and what is obsessive/compulsive. I certainly find myself avoiding certain foods at certain times but ultimately I’d like to be able to eat any/every food without it leading to thoughts of guilt and failure. For now I take each day as it comes and count every one that I don’t partake in bingeing/purging as a plus. Thanks again for your thoughts and input. It’s always helpful to hear what works for others 🙂

Really funny this Video…you are a good actor ;)… being healthy the “earn your carbs”-method is the best. I am on this for years..back than from bodyrock-times..so I follow you for quite some time now…like lots here, I guess. 😉 The Thing is…I dont have so much craving anymore, except when I get my monthly period…but even then…I rather enjoy a nice cake when I am out for dinner or something..I dont Need this -in between junk Food- anymore..at least not so often. I havent been to McDonalds..gee, I dont know when I was there the last time….I do like going to a Restaurant, but I love my Food more..my salads, my Dressings …But I do realise, that when I am on Holiday, I have more time to prepare and it just is easier to eat healthy…Long hours in the Office are the worst for a healthy diet I think…so for the last 3 weeks my diet was almost flawless..no mistakes…I was doing great..tomorrow I have to go back wo work, and it is going to be a challenge…also, fall is coming..I Need new recepies…summer recepies are different…well well… 😉 stil..I just love everything..I think my butt actually is a Little lifted 😉

For me, the more high starch carbs and high sugar fruits I eat the more I crave carbs overall. I try to eat mainly berries for fruit and keep my carbs other than veggies to after a good workout. I have a sweet tooth during my time of the month so instead of trying to have “will power”,(it doesn’t work, darn hormones) I just come up with lower sugar healthier versions of the things I am craving. I don’t feel deprived and don’t sabotage my efforts too much.
