Drink Coffee AND Get Healthy!

Health | July 06, 2016

Coffee

I love coffee! Not a day goes by when I don’t enjoy at least one cup. I love coffee so much that I write about it all the time. In fact, I wrote an article about the many health benefits of coffee almost exactly a year ago. And in 2014, I blogged about what a great natural workout enhancer is it.

When I drink coffee I like to add in some unsalted, grass-fed butter and coconut oil. Then I blend it up until it’s a rich, creamy, frothy delight. Some people call that bulletproof coffee. Here are my two cents about the bulletproof recipe I use.

Anyway, like I said, I’m a coffee enthusiast. So I was super pumped when I recently saw the news that a panel of experts brought together by the World Health Organization (W.H.O.) has announced that the evidence to support the claim that coffee causes cancer is lacking. And even better, coffee may help to prevent uterine and liver cancer, among others. That’s quite a one-eighty!

25 years ago a W.H.O.panel actually condemned coffee as a possible cause of cancer. TheNew York Times reports, “The announcement marked a rare reversal for the panel, which had previously described coffee as ‘possibly carcinogenic’ in 1991 and linked it to bladder cancer. But since then a large body of research has portrayed coffee as a surprising elixir, finding lower rates of heart disease, Type 2 diabetes, neurological disorders and several cancers in those who drink it regularly.”

And this is no small study. The Huffington Post reports, “For this evaluation 23 scientists from 10 countries met in Lyon, France, and evaluated 1000 observational and experimental studies that have accumulated in the meantime [since the 1991 panel convened].”

The W.H.O. panel did release one warning. NPR reports, “One word of caution: The agency warns that extremely hot beverages may increase the risk of [esophageal] cancer. For instance, the group looked at studies from South America where mate is consumed at very hot temperatures. The group concludes that the cancer-causing effects probably occur at drinking temperatures of 150 degrees Fahrenheit and above.” Yikes, that’s a hot cup of coffee.

Guys, whether you like it black or iced or bulletproof or creamy with almond milk, I recommend coffee. It has always made me feel good and more and more research is backing up what I’ve always know to be true: Coffee is naturally delicious and bursting with health benefits. Just don’t drink it when it’s boiling hot!

You know, all this talking about coffee is making me want one! Excuse me while I go brew up some yumminess and then drink it at a moderately warm temperature 😉

My husband loves coffee. Unfortunately, if I drink it for more than a few days I get horrible headaches and my kidneys start to hurt. I don’t know why I have this reaction, so it’s definitely not for everyone. I do love black tea though!

I guess this shows again, there is almost always a study to back up any claim, especially when it comes to health and/or foods. One can almost always find a study to back up a claim or the exact opposite. I guess what i am trying to say is, do what you feel is best for your body and ignore the Research. Dont trust a study you didn’t manipulate yourself.

Coffee mate and the like are loaded with all kinds of nasty things. Read the ingredients. Scary. Perhaps a whey based dry milk powder, but certainly NOT the chemical soups pawned off as “creamer”. Even most of the special liquids called such are fit to consume. Dairy fat is NOT harmful.

Whole milk is full of nothing but fat and sugar. How is that healthy?

Hi Zuzka, So I am new to your site and I am trying to make your coffee recipe. My question is, can I use Nescafe or Folgers Instant coffee? I don’t have a coffee maker. lol

    Any advise is greatly appreciated.

I haven’t seen a straight forward answer whether or not it’s bad for us to drink instant coffee. I read some concerns about acrylamide from the amount of roasting, but apparently that’s not enough to do any damage even if you drink it regularly. I guess the only downfall would be the taste – it won’t taste as good as freshly roasted coffee.
