The Best Morning Drink For Health and Weight Loss
Health | February 02, 2015
What is your favorite beverage in the morning? Is it coffee or tea? I love both, but I decided to start my days with a healthy drink from now on. That doesn’t mean that I am giving up on coffee and tea, however it is very important what goes into your system first thing in the morning. That’s why Im starting my days with lemon water. It’s nothing complicated and the benefits are huge. You will need a freshly squeezed juice from 1/2 of a lemon, and 8oz of warm or room temperature water. Squeeze the lemon into the water and if you want you can also add fresh mint. That’s what I do, because I have a fresh mint herb in my kitchen and I am always happy whenever I get the chance to use it.
Here are the benefits of drinking lemon water in the morning on an empty stomach:
1. Lemon water will help you cleanse your body of toxins, which is going to show on your skin. Lemons are full of skin rejuvenating and anti-aging properties.
2. Lemon water will improve your digestion. The lemon juice will activate the production of bile in your digestive system and when combined with warm water, it will flush out un-welcomed stuff out of your body and help with bloating and heartburn.
3. Lemon water eliminates headaches.
4. Lemon water fights infections. The high amount of vitamin C in lemons is a very powerful way to for fighting illnesses.
5. Lemon water helps with weight loss. Lemons are full of pectin fiber, which will regulate your hunger levels.
Enjoy your healthy morning drink!

I started adding lemon and/or something else on my water without sugar… But in the morning, I usually drink coffee first… Cannot be without coffee… But tomorrow, I’ll do my best to start my day with a lemon/mint/strawberry (or whatever combination that will come up in my head) in the morning.

Thank you for the suggestion Zuz! I usually just drink water and coffee every morning before work and certainly more on the weekends. I drink plenty of water during the day but nothing like what you’re suggesting. I am excited to try this! Thank you!!!

Hey, Zuzka, you know what would be great? A post about hunger. I went through a stint of emotional eating a while ago, which I’m still trying to recover from. This means re-learning how to listen to my hunger signals, telling the difference between bored, hungry, no longer hungry, full, stuffed-to-the-gills, etc. I would LOVE to hear your perspective on this, and the line between not overeating and not starving yourself. I should probably go re-read your posts on portion control, but I’d love to hear your thoughts on experiencing hunger and listening to your body.

Why is the water suppose to be warm or room temp.? Why not cold?

I have been doing that for the past 3 months and I have a lot more energy, less headaches and I am never sick, not a single bug! Apparently it helps as well to absorb better the vitamins and minerals that we will eat during the day, and then reduces the feelings of hunger and cravings. Warm water helps flush the toxins (compare to cold water) and it is nicer to drink first thing in the morning that cold water;-)

YES YES YES!!!
I am drinking this from a long time and I noticed better looking skin. My 5 years old son is drinking lemon juice too for improving his immune system. My boyfriend and his teenage son are also drinking lemon juice. Everyone because of the great benefits. And the cold or flu can kiss your perfect looking bum 🙂

My first routine after waking up is drinking 300 ml water, then move about a bit… then 1 lemon juice squeezed + water. I can’t live without lemons.

could you drink lemon juice opposed to real lemons? would this have the same affect?

@Erika above: Don’t worry, girl. no one said you have to give up the coffee. I’m right there with you on that one. And if I remember correctly, Zuzka loves coffee, too. : ) Coffee itself (in moderation, of course) has a number of health benefits (i.e., antioxidants, thermogenic, energy booster, low calorie). Aside from case-by-case responses that individuals may have to the caffeine (i.e., migraines, HTN, insomnia), the main concerns about coffee have to do with the extra stuff one puts in their coffee, like all the added sugar, processed creamers, milk, etc. So, unless you have other medical conditions which would prompt a doctor to tell you to cut back on your coffee consumption, there’s no need to worry about giving up your morning coffee. Just have a glass of water first while your coffee s brewing. : )
