Good idea, but if I can give you a tip, I will not use Agave as this is one of the worst processed sugar you can have. Go for pure maple sirup, way better and natural (or honey)

This little amount of Agave does no harm. Maple sirup and honey is way too high in sugar, that’s why I stick to Agave when a recipe asks for tiny bit. It’s lower in GI. Neither one of these sweeteners is a health food…

Hum, I think that the GI is higher for honey should not be the bases for rejecting it over agave. Honey is as health food goes better than almost any of the other sweetening agents around. Maybe coconut sugar is better in some ways, but agave is not.

All that aside this looks like a pretty good recipe.

Im not sure. It sounds like a common sense that honey should be more healthy, but have you seen the documentary from Morgan Spurlock “Honey Bee-Ware” episode of “Inside Man” about honey and bees? He shows that it’s really important how honey is being made and that only one guy in the US is actually testing honey if it’s harmful or not. But only if you bring it to him personally I think ๐Ÿ™‚ Im afraid that there’s not many foods nowadays that are 100% healthy or good for us anymore. Now it comes down to personal preference and what where are we willing to give some slack. If both Agave and Honey contain some harmful agents, then I might at least go with the one with less sugar and lower GI.

Yeah, I’m aware of the horrors of most commercial beekeepers and the tons of sugar or high fructose corn syrup they feed their bees. It’s just like diary cows and other things that were once healthy and now are insanely polluted and distorted. Hard to make perfect choices. I always make sure of the source of honey I use. Think of it this way Zuzka we need to support Honey Bees so we have all the nuts, fruits and veggies! ๐Ÿ™‚ You will survive the small amount of extra sugar and you are healthy and aren’t going to go into shock over it. There are these Aussies who have made a better Beehive. Instead of pulling frames out and scraping the wax caps off you just crank the cells apart and the Honey pours out! You don’t seriously disturb the bees and almost anyone can have a hive with their design!

How can you make sure of the source if you don’t know how to test honey? There’s literally one person in the US that knows how to do that. You just can’t know and you can’t believe the packaging anymore either. You stick with honey, Im good with Agave ๐Ÿ™‚

If the source is local I would think your safe. But how can you be sure your Agave is really Agrave and not Honey? ๐Ÿ˜‰

Here’s a pretty good article that explains more about the testing of honey (or the lack of it): http://www.foodsafetynews.com/2011/11/tests-show-most-store-honey-isnt-honey/#.VStgMIullBw

                Hi!

What about raw honey straight from the farmer?

Zuzka, any link you make here should just open a new window and not direct away from your pages. I get it. Chinese “honey” is everywhere and it’s really just garbage. I still trust local Beekeepers.

The moral of the story is not to buy crap honey from China! Most important is that one keeps a count on calories. Did you know there is cyanide in NATURAL spring water? all intelligent scientists(the real scientists) understand that toxicology is in the dosage. But try to explain that to a Lefty.

Stephen, I’m guessing you didn’t read the article Zuzka linked to. It’s not that they are labeling this “honey” made in China. The whole point of filtering all the pollen out is probably to make the illegal stuff impossible to really identify it’s origins. And by stripping everything good out of it you might as well be consuming High Fructose Corn Syrup. My argument here is we should try to support the honey bee for what it does for plants and us beyond making honey. I think almost everyone got that. ๐Ÿ˜€

For low GI i suggest coconut nectar, also known as palm sugar. The lowest I’ve found so far.

True Coconut nectar is good stuff.

I believe the issue with agave is that it is almost pure FRUCTOSE which has a much more dangerous impact on the liver than a GLUCOSE/FRUCTOSE based sweetener. Of course we shouldnt be eating French Toast yumminess for breakfast every day though so a once in a while ‘treat’ shouldnt do any harm!!

if you’re low carb ,then no ,you can’t have this recipe as whole wheat bread is one of the ingredients. Whole wheat anything is terrible for you. Make pancakes or waffles instead, here is a good low carb recipe:
            WAFFLE

1 scoop vega one coconut protein scoop
            1 tbsp coconut flour
            3 tbsp almond flour
1 cup or 1/2 cup almond milk ,depending on batter thickness
            2 Large Eggs
            1/4 tsp. Baking Soda
            1/2 tsp. Cinnamon
            1/2 tsp. Vanilla Extract

Mix all dry ingredients first in bowl then add eggs, vanilla and enough milk to have thick but pourable batter

pour into waffle iron or make pancakes n skillet

Sugar is sugar..the body processes it the same way. Live a little ๐Ÿ™‚

Unless that sugar is accompanied with fiber. Then it is broken down and digested much slower, therefore used as energy and burned rather than the body storing it as fat right away. So I guess if you are adding any sweetener of your choice to a food or consuming it through fruit then you’re way better off than drinking a sugary soda or fruit juice. either way….everything in moderation, people:)

no, no all sugars are the same. Erythritol is a sugar alcohol not processed through the body same way as “sugar”. It does not covert to glucose but it passes through small intestine and out your urine (sorry, I know gross but true) . It’s a natural sugar substitute thats tastes exactly like sugar, much better then stevia with no after taste. I use it all the time as my husband is type 2 diabetic. This substitute does not raise blood levels. I make my special treats with it. Look it up

This looks yumm! Although there is one of your recipe that I love more than anything. Do you remember the apple, bun, cinnamon and maple syrup deliciousness with walnut crunch? Yes, the one that everyone should earn 1000 times before eating it :). I’m sure there is possible to make even healthier version of it and I believe warriors would be happy to see you bake one :). All the best!

Why some people cant have their opinion on something without arguing over it. Zuzka is great and she shares with us her amazing yummy foods, if you don’t agree don’t eat it as simple as that. But don’t start making your point over and over again. We are here as we have same goal , but it is not having arguments with Zuzka:) Thank you for your new post Z and keep going xx

Hi Zuzka! Tried this recipe this morning and it was great! However, I used the bread I had (regular sandwich bread) because I couldn’t find any bread that resembled the kind you had in the video. and so I think it could have come out better. What brand/kind of bread did you use?

I try to go for a fresh bread (not the packaged one that lasts forever in your pantry) made out of whole wheat flour. That’s an important ingredient that you should look for. if the package says whole grain or whole wheat but it’s not made out of whole wheat flour, then you may as well go for the white bread.

read the wheat belly, whole wheat is never to be used or consumed in our bodies. Maybe years ago but today’s whole wheat flour is over processed and causing a lot of harm to digestive systems. I gave it up years ago and I’m in the best shape of my life, like you Z, no body fat and no more stomach issues.

Hi Zuzka, this french toast looks so yummy, I will try it soon. Nowadays I bake my own bread, since more than 6 months I do not buy bread from bakery. Sometimes I bake gluten free bread or whole wheat bread. I also bake paleo bread with almond flour only. I would like you to share with us one more bread recipe using only flour (any type)! ๐Ÿ™‚ I can not survive without eating bread in the morning…:) See you, take care.
