Grapefruit Protein Smoothie (WEM)

Recipes | December 05, 2015

WEM stands for workout earned meal – which means it’s high in carbs. It’s recommended to be really active or do a high intensity workout on days, when you spike your blood sugar with carb heavy meals.

*Makes 1 Portion

Ingredients:
1 ruby red grapefruit
1 small apple
5 strawberries, remove the green top
1 scoop vanilla whey protein

Instructions:

  1. Add all ingredients to a blender and process until smooth. Then enjoy!

*I tried this same recipe with vegan pea protein and it didn’t taste great, just a warning 😉

Macros (does not include whey protein- will differ depending on brand, flavor, and whether or not you even decide to use whey in the first place):
Calories: 204.2
Carbs: 52.5 g
Net Carbs: 41.8 g
Fat: 0.8 g
Protein: 2.8 g

I was going to ask the same thing.
Maybe Zuzka made it WEM because it is good to drink after a workout, but still I do not think it should be “earned with a workout”. Or maybe there was banana and she forgot to add it.

I’m thinking bc of the amount of fruit…a lot of sugars. LOVE grapefruit…never thought about putting it in a shake. 🙂

maybe too much fruit at once? given that fruit should be about half or less of what is in this one serving at a time

That does make sense, I was thinking the same that that might be why. Thanks!

Is it really one portion from these ingredients? I blended all ingredients and got a little over half a liter of smoothie 🙂 Because of it´s really filling, I split into two portions.

Should I peel the grapefruit from its bitter white skin? I haven’t done this and found out how disgusting grapefruit smoothie can be 🙂

I’m not a fan of the consistency of this one. It turns into a foamy, airy eww. Looks much better in the picture.

I used frozen fruits for this and it was a bit thicker – but in general I prefer a smoothie bowl texture v.s. thin drinkable smoothies lol for some reason it fills me up better- it’s probably just in my head lol

      Were yours frozen?

I like thick also, but this was different. This came out airy. Foamy. Not good! It was probably due to the grapefruit – it may have been indeed better if I’d frozen it first. The only frozen part to this were my strawberries.
