Healthy French Fries - Recipe Makeover

Recipes | December 10, 2012

French Fries are one of the most fattening foods out there that is unfortunately so good that it makes it hard for us to resist. Luckily for all of us, there is a slightly better substitute for potato french fries that is just as tasty and I personally prefer the taste. Have you ever tried to make French Fries out of Carrots?

Just preheat the oven for 475F and in the meanwhile cut the carrots (about 5-6 for two portions) into a “french fries like” pieces and toss them in a bowl with 1-2 teaspoon of Coconut Oil.

Coconut oil will give them amazing taste and this oil is also great for high temperature baking. Do not use any salt yet. Bake them for about 6 minutes on a nonstick baking sheet and then switch to broil for another 6 – 7 minutes. I do that in my oven because the broiling makes them nice and crispy on the top.

There are endless ways to eat your healthy french fries. I had a grilled chicken breast, sauteed mushrooms with pine nuts and fresh parsley, and my little Carrot miracles for today’s dinner. The carrot fries and the mushrooms are juicy but if it still feels too dry for you, you can have a home made salsa instead of ketchup.

Let me know about your own recipe make overs in the comments below and thanks for stopping by.

Those look and sound fabulous! I am almost 8 weeks pregnant so I can’t do ZWOW’s anymore and nutrition is extra hard when vegetables sound awful but fast food (which I used to rarely eat) sounds amazing so I really love this idea as French fries are one of my biggest cravings! Thanks Z!

    Zfantastic, love it!!

Zuzska, thanks for sharing and posting all that precious stuff. U’re creativety should be on a mastercard commercial… i.e. “priceless”

On that recipe, i would just recommend trying it with caçava or parsnips also. And of course whatever fat u use, make it a minimum possible. I couldnt find coconut oil yet, but looking for it.

C u on the next zwowski,

    Successki!

Ps: can someone back me up on this one? When she says “… And twenty!” In the workouts.. Absolute fan.
