Leftover Soup For Weight Loss

Recipes | December 27, 2012

This soup out of leftovers saved my life last night. I had my dinner around 6pm and I thought that I won’t be hungry. Boy I was wrong! I got hungry around 10pm and I wasn’t going to sleep for another 2 hours, so I had to do something. I wanted to avoid snacking on all those cookies, chocolates, and treats that we have plenty of at home from Christmas. I looked in the fridge and this is what I found. Enjoy this leftover soup for weight loss.

3 large carrots, 1 small red potato, 1 stalk of romaine lettuce, 1 medium size onion, small parsley root, about a handful of parsley leaf, 1 egg, 1 cup of chicken broth and about 1/4 cup of coconut milk.

All I had to do was to chop, mix it in a medium size pot that was half way full of water, and cook it until the carrots were soft. About 12-15 minutes. Done. I love soups and the great thing about this one was that I used leftovers, it was low in calories, and it filled me up. Anything that is made out of super foods, is dense in nutrients and low in calories is great for weight loss. Or in my case weight maintenance.

Ok, I admit it. I threw a few goldfish into my bowl of soup. Still better then horfing down the 5lb chocolate bar that I got for Christmas 🙂 haha.

What do you do when you get hungry at night? Do you snack? What do you eat? Do you eat at all at night?

Always looking forward to reading your comments.
Best,
Z.

I drink some water and see if that wont cure the rumbling. Then go to something like peanut butter on celery or maybe a handful of nuts. The soup idea seems good as do all the various ideas. Thanks for sharing. –Chris

wow! this sounds great! One question: Can I use low-fat milk or almond milk instead of coconut milk? I usually don’t snack at night but if I get hungry I will eat greek yogurt with mixed forest fruits 🙂

Mmmm, delicious. Well for me, I usually take fruit, because at home we’ve got plenty of it. Bananas, apples, oranges, kiwis, mandarins, limons … I have dinner when I feel hungry (it doesn’t matter if it’s 6 pm or 10 pm), but i a have it early, then i usually get a little bit hungry around10 pm, so i just take one apple or banana and i’m cool. 🙂 Thanks for sharing 😀

Ahahaha, great soup! I do not usually eat at night, I prefer going to bed hungry. I do not need much food generally, but sometimes I can’t resist eating something junk and all my efforts of keeping a healthy diet end disgracefully. That’s why I look fit but not fit enough – I still have a big percentage of body fat and my muscles are not lean enough. And I am angry with myself. At the moment I am a little ill and I can’t do the workouts and I have the feeling of exploding, I thing I’ve gained at least 5 pounds, it’s awful.
Zuzka, have nice holidays and i hope that I’ll soon be better and I’ll continue with the workouts. They are great and short and intense….and just wonderful. Don’t ever stop doing what you re doing. You are so inspiring. Thank you!

    I absolutely love soup!
When I do not have salad at home(I mostly have salads as Dinner) I just eat a pot of soup(1/2L). It fills up, tastes good, is fast and low in costs.

When I want to snack I use your recipe to replace Phish Food! So frozen banana, almond butter, cocoa powder and raw chocolate nibs. It’s delicious!

Evenings is typically when all the hard work I put in to the day comes crashing down in a big oversized portion of anything. Usually something processed like some cry rice chex cereal or Cape Cod Jalopeno potato chips. Not that I am a fan of new years resolutions… but I am trying to stop my nighttime snacking. Not waiting till New Years tho. Started yesterday 🙂 I wan to have Z-cuts 🙂

Thats an original soup :). Here in South TX. it hardly gets cold, but when it does, i make sure to make a soup, eat it at least 2 times throughout the day with a peach or any fruit ( but i prefer peaches). I add chicken brooth ( low sodium, fat free)..red cabagge, or green cabagge, onion, u can add tomatoe , spinach, n mush rooms if u want :), also celery sticks, carrots, red potatoe, n sum chicken :)…mmmm u can add sum garlic powder n cumin for taste, ENJOY I hope this recipe can help others 🙂

If I get hungry I try to eat a piece of fruit and if there isn’t any I grab a carrot or two…maybe three 😛
