Low Carb Grilled Cheese Sandwich (FM)

Recipes | September 22, 2016

lowcarbgrilledcheesesandwich

*Yields one portion. It pairs well with the Tomato Fennel Soup.

Ingredients:
2 large eggs
2 tbsp almond flour
1 1/2 tbsp psyllium husk powder
1/2 tsp baking powder
2 tbsp melted butter
1/4 tsp fine sea salt
additional 2 tbsp of butter for grilling the toast
sliced cheese of your choice – you can use jack, cheddar, mozzarella…

Instructions:

  1. In a medium size bowl whisk the eggs with melted butter.
  2. Add the almond flour, baking powder, and salt and mix well until smooth.
  3. Add the psyllium and mix well – the batter will get thicker.
  4. Pour the batter into a microwave safe square dish (the size you want your toast to be) I use glass tupperware.
  5. Microwave for 90-110 seconds. The top should be firm.  Then flip the dish over to get the bread out and slice in half lengthwise to get two pieces of toast.
  6. Heat up a frying pan over medium/high and melt the additional 2 tbsp of butter – it will give your toast delicious flavor.
  7. Place the sliced cheese between the two pieces of toast and grill the sandwich on each side until golden brown and until the cheese melts. Serve.

751calories in 1tiny sandwich, 71grams of fat in 1meal.. I mean why not just make bread with traditional way? You can also use healthier flours like oat chickpea or still use almond flour. But Idk its dense and high calorie so its good for a snack if you want to bulk, but most of the women in this site want to get leaner and possibly eat more than you do. You can’t eat 1more sandwich because 1more literally means like 6more regular sandwiches

I agree, a lot of the recipes are very dense with high calories and high fat… I think Zuzka eats very small portions of her meals 4 times a day

If I saw more recipes like this in Zuzka’s food journal I would actually be pleasantly relieved because she would be eating enough calories… however most of her journals barely equate to 1200 calories.

Mesomorph or not, it’s not enough food regardless of activity.

She makes high calorie high fat recipes but she eats little portions (she eat only half of the sandwich says in her food journal)

They have it at Bulk Barn. Bulk Barn is awesome. It’s surprising what they have there, especially healthy things like hemp, all sorts of flours, guar gum, nutritional yeast and it goes on and on and it’s usually cheaper than at health food stores.

Priscilla, thanks! I forget how handy Bulk Barn can be. When I do think of it it’s more for candies, nuts, and more basic items like that. Have you tried this recipe yet? It looks delish.

Nope, haven’t tried it yet. But yes Bulk Barn surprisingly has so many healthy items that are hard to find elsewhere. Next time you go take time to really look at everything they have, even in their shelves.

It is a form of fibre. It has a bit of laxative effect which you will probably need after eating that amount of fat in one meal 🙂 Maybe you could use ground flax seeds?

hahah @ the fibre comment 🙂 – I think I’ll try finding it at bulk barn and if I can’t find it or don’t like the taste, I may just do an intense workout and earn a normal grilled cheese for the sake of simplicity

It should be in any generic store, in the flour section probably.

You can also find this in the aisle where vitamins, protein powders and bars, and other supplements are sold. Or order it online.

Hi Monica you can use chia seeds flax seeds..and another one too that I cannot recall. Just Google physilim substitute . I only have some chia seeds and also just to let you know if you use flax seeds you must use them quickly after they have been ground. They can go rancid after a while.

I cannot wait to try this. Looks and sounds delish. Zuzka is in fabulous shape and health. I do not challenge her knowledge and it usually sets me about to doing my own research. Knowing your body type is key in determining how your body processes foods. Mine does not process simple carbs and/or grains very efficiently. When I eat as Zuzka suggests with WEMs that may contain simple carbs/grains I continue to lose fat and build muscle.

Hi Zuzka, I’m really excited to check out this recipe for the bread. I don’t make bread very well, I mean even the simple egg bread,, I don’t make regular bread. I can’t do it, I can’t even make a three ingredient cookie so I’m pretty excited to try this bread that you’ve made, however I will not ever ever ever use a microwave unless I absolutely have to; the microwave kills all the nutrients in the food so you actually just ate the Worst bread possibke because there’s no Health left in that at all.—> check out YouTube a schoolgirl did a project with microwaved water and boiled water on two different plants (same type of plant ) for one week and the results are amazingly gross actually…. which is why I will never use a microwave again unless I absolutely have to.

I actually don’t eat as much food as you do which is probably why I’m big and still have a bit of fat on me actually quite a bit because I’m not eating enough and I’m not exercising every single day sometimes I take a little longer to get to the exercise and then my day is gone. I will try to eat as you eat it might be a little much but I’ll try and I can see how that would keep you satiated even though it may seem like a little bit according to some of the people who’ve made comments, I honestly don’t see how you can eat that much but that’s okay that’s fine .. I’m sure if you were hungry you’d eat. And you know what if I actually was honest about the amount of snacking that I do on sunflower seeds and peanuts I probably would eat as much food as you. Now caloric wise, I probably eat the same amount & just I don’t notice it because I’m snacking on sunflower seeds which are freaking amazing!!!
I don’t stress about the fats,, I care about the carb; I’ve done a lot of research on it and the more you eat well you can get fat accumulation from eating fat too if you’ve already got that on your body and your eating and excessive amount or an excessive amount of protein or an excessive amount of carbs, you just can’t be excessive!! Like I’ve been. TIMES ARE CHANGING.

I think Ezekiel sprouted bread would work fine, but can you skip the extra fiber stuff?
