Recipes | May 14, 2017

Protein Power Balls (FM)-post

*Makes 9 Protein Balls

Ingredients:
1 cup whole pistachios
1/3 cup whole walnuts
1/3 cup whole cashews
1/2 scoop vanilla whey protein powder, 14g (max. 3grams of carbs – use a low carb protein powder)
1 tsp unsweetened cocoa powder
2 tbsp coconut oil
1 tbsp honey
2 tbsp shredded unsweetened coconut

Instructions:

  1. Add the pistachios, walnuts, cashews, protein powder, and cocoa powder into a blender. Blend on high until almost smooth. The consistency should be almost like a nut flour with small pieces of nuts still visible.
  2. Transfer the nut mixture to a medium bowl, add the coconut oil, honey, and mix until well combined.
  3. Place the coconut into a small bowl.
  4. Roll the nut mixture into small even size (about 1 tbsp each) balls and dip each one in the shredded coconut. Store the power balls in an airtight container in the fridge for a week.

I’ve made these a few times! Is this recipe from your book? I can’t remember where I saw it before but they are delicious!

I am allergic to cashews and pistachios- what can I substitute?

I’d say any nut that you like and are not allergic too will work great! 🙂

Hi Zuzka. I’m confused how you differentiate between FM and WEM. I know that FM is considered to be low carb but the ingredients in this recipe appear to have a high amount of carbs. What is the ‘cut off’ point between the two?

The recipe is mostly fats. I think it would be WEM if the amount of carbs would be close to half or above.

Hi – This is a snack on the Z-Shred Meal Plan. What is the serving size? 1 protein ball or 2?

    Hello,
Am I the only one who has had difficulty rolling these into balls and making them stick together? About how many 1 tbsp balls did you guys have? Any tips or advice? 🙂 .

I had about 16 balls when I made it. It was hard to get them to stick at first I actually added just a titch more honey but still had to kind of force them to stick at first. I put them in a container in the fridge for a few hours and they held together pretty good after that!
