Untangling Our Emotions

Health | February 09, 2015

“Courage is resistance to fear, mastery of fear – not absence of fear.” – Mark Twain

Often we are entangled by our emotions. Our jobs, our relationships, the daily grind can all ensnare us. Worse, they can form a kind of jungle that’s easy to get lost in. Suddenly, something as seemingly simple as going to the Zgym can feel like an impossible task. It’s as though we need some kind of machete to bushwhack through all that emotional entanglement, but simply can’t.

Instead of struggling through that bewilderment, trying to solve problems that we’ve already over-analyzed to death, we need to find a place within us that provides solace and fortifies us for the challenges that lie ahead.

In my experience, it is often the very thing that I don’t want to do that has proved to be the best way out of the proverbial emotional jungle. And that is exercise. It took a while to figure this out mainly because it does require courage and effort. However, I’m continually amazed at how a clear path opens up in all that mental noise and confusion and leads me out into a healthier emotional space.

I’m guessing some of you have experienced the following at one point or another: A stressful day or week compels you to find some easy way to relax. You consider snacking, television, games, etc. However, some little voice inside of you tells you to workout with me even though it seems like the last thing you want to do. Twenty minutes later, doused in sweat, your muscles on fire, you can’t believe how good you feel. Sure, you exhausted, but in a great, genuinely relaxed way. That jungle of emotions that surrounded your day or week is reduced to a houseplant and is now minor and manageable or, at the very least, not nearly as significant as you thought it was.

It’s as though working out dispels the delusions that make us feel overwhelmed or feel less than who we truly are and hope to become.

As I’ve said before, fitness and wellbeing begin from the inside out. Sure, when you workout with me, it involves outward, physical movements, but the drive, the focus, the courage all begins inside of you.

Tell me about your experiences with exercise and your emotions. This is a good place for us to share with one another and, more importantly, support one another.

Alot of the workouts in the Zgym make me really afraid. I find that I have to be courageous to even attempt them. For example, Cardio Shred 12X with the Double Unders on 3 followed by the Everest Climbers…I can feel the pain from that combination while I’m sitting still. I’m dreading this workout so much that I keep putting it off. Also, the Plank Jump to Jump Tuck in part 2 and the DB Pushup to Reverse Squat in part 3…I can tell that this workout is going to be really painful and hard to get through. It will help to some degree that the workout is by timer. Hopefully only 20 seconds of each exercise will help make them more manageable. There’s no doubt that after these workouts, a person doesn’t have any energy to persist in silly emotional turmoil.

I think too much. Exercise gives me a break from an overactive brain by allowing me to just focus on one thing- moving. Forces me to ‘let go’ for a little while. If I don’t I am going to hurt myself by not paying attention to what I am doing. Helps me to get rid of excess energy be it positive or negative. Exercise is necessary for my wellbeing. When i don’t do it I feel excessively sluggish and my appetite actually decreases- this is not a good thing. I need food to nourish me. Whatever I’m feeling just gets worse when i don’t eat.

I knew I had to back to this post one day (family argue, work stress,..), but never thought it would be for this …we are facing defamatory statements on internet and it is destroying. It is so unfair and like battling ghosts: you can see them, hear them, but can’t fight back.
I am been reporting to webmaster about 30 entries…I guess all are in week-end and nothing will end before police or justice acts. When will that be?
In days where I was upset by my spouse or job, I would spit out all my anger and energy on the boxing bag (sweaty workouts)…this time, I don’t have this type of anger: the image I am having in front of me are old lonely brainless “ladies”…just pure ignorance and dumbness.
I couldn’t find energy to cook, so junk food was an easy grab over the week-end.
I still found willingness to work on my KB snatches, improving my mobility in coming out of back-rolls. I am looking fwd to taking the real battle so that I can turn the page!
