How to Deal With Fat Shaming
Blog | December 28, 2013
There has been a lot of fat shaming going on lately on the internet and it’s something that has been bothering me and many women out there. I think it’s great that it’s being talked about in the media and recognized as a form of bullying. I personally can’t even understand why would someone want to leave a comment on other woman’s post just to tell her that she’s fat, looks unhealthy, and shouldn’t be proudly posting her photos on the internet. Some people are even publicly saying that being proud of your body, if you are overweight and obese, sends the wrong message to other women and children. I did this video for all of you who became a victim of such abuse, so that you know how to deal with fat shaming.
Your weight is not an indicator whether or not you’re healthy or fit. I’ve been friends with fairly overweight martial artists that are more agile, flexible, and faster than me. While there certainly has been connections between obesity and different kinds of health problems, the only person that has the right to tell you that you’re unhealthy is your doctor. Your family has the right to kick your butt into living a healthy lifestyle for sure, but no one should ever tell you not to be proud of your own body and make you feel ashamed.Â
Our health is really the most important thing. It’s not just about eating healthy and exercising tho, it’s also about your way of thinking. Keeping a positive attitude makes a huge difference in the quality of your life and decision making. That’s why it’s so important to deal with fat shaming in a positive way. Do not fight those immature people that may not be even realizing how abusive they are. It’s a waste of your energy and you don’t need another drama in your life. Just remember that you are a beautiful person in your own unique way, no matter how much you weigh or what you look like.
People don’t fall in love with “perfect bodies”. What makes someone love you is your amazing personality and your energy. That’s what makes you irreplaceable in a relationship. Not everyone may see your true beauty, but who cares! What matters is that you have people around you that love you and know who you really are. Your confidence and how you carry yourself is something way more important then your looks. Like I said in the video, do not wait to be proud of yourself and your body until you lose some weight. Body composition can not make you a truly confident person, because real confidence comes from within. Be proud, be brave, and show the world that you are more than happy with your body and that you are not ashamed to flaunt it in your selfies 🙂

You are such a wonderful person, Zuzka. And your inner beauty is really showing on the outside, too;) Do you perhaps have any suggestions how to continue with your workouts during pregnancy, since everyone is preaching low intensity training for pregnant women?

Thanks for sharing such a positive message Zuzka. For me, I have been fat shamed by my own family. I am making strides every day in my journey against obesity, but it does hurt getting comments from the people who are supposed to love you unconditionally. They see it as tough love. People don’t know how much hurt they can cause with just a few words.

“No man is going to fall in love with you just because you’re a hot piece of ass.” Ha ha ha!! I loved that line. 🙂
Very well said, Z. I wish this was brought to light more often…thanks for posting this. I loved the “moving blanket” sitting next to you. Adorable..

I love that part too. Zuz, you’re the best. My husband and I have known each other 13 years, been together for 12 and married 8 1/2. When we first met, he thought I was a “hot piece of ass” LOL! but I promise you we would not have stayed together if we hadn’t fallen in love with each other as human beings (the whole package- heart, mind, soul) and we are still in love. Although I stay as fit and healthy as I can, I’m older now and not as tiny as I once was but he still thinks I am very beautiful and sexy. 🙂

Thank you!!! More young girls need to listen to this! You are awesome. This is why I love you. Always positive and strong, and I’m not talking about your muscles. It takes a lot more time and effort to build self-esteem within ourselves as opposed to our bodies. Keep it up Z!
Happy new year to you and yours.
