My Food Journal - The Week of August 8th

Nutrition | August 15, 2016

I did my best to keep a good record of what I ate for the past week. I did not try to make the photos pretty (sorry for that), I just snapped a quick shot to document my own diet.

You can still use my own Food Journal as a template for your own weekly meal plan, but I really suggest you eat according to your own body-type.

I’m a mesomorph – athletic and muscular so I don’t have to always earn my carbs with a workout although I like doing that anyways because I tent to gain weight easily.

If you’re an endomorph – your body stores more fat and your goal is to get leaner or lose weight. You should definitely earn your carbs with a workout.

If you’re ectomorph – skinny, with very little muscle mass, then you don’t need to earn your carbs with a workout as long as those carbs come from natural sources like rice, potatoes, quinoa, whole grains, etc.

We should all exercise daily and avoid added sugar and junk food if we want to stay healthy and strong. If you do want to eat sugar and junk here and there, then at least earn it with your workout even if you’re naturally skinny. It will help you avoid lifestyle diseases such as diabetes.

Nutrition Guide with more info here.

FM – Free meal that you can eat at any time of the day regardless of your body type

WEM – Workout earned meal, or a meal you should earn with your training if you’re either an endomorph or an endomesomorph (athletic person who gains weight easily).

DRINK A LOT OF WATER! I have a 800ml glass bottle that I refill 3x a day to make sure I drink about 2,5l of water every day. If you’re having a trouble to drink plain water, you can always flavor it with fresh lemon juice.

These are my supplements: Supreme greens, glucosamine, essential fatty acids, and my pre-workout protein blend with a natural fat burner.

You ate so much more salad this week! To me your diet looks healthier and more satiating this week. Like a really good balance of work and play 🙂

Hello Zuzka! Thank you so much for your work and to give us a guide with your food journal. Could you please make a video of new recipies you put? As you were doing it before? I love your food but I am not so good cooker and I can make a fantasticly bad dishes even though the recipy is so simple to make 😛

You actually seemed to eat this week! This is nice to see.

Sorry but the last few journals I have found rather triggering (as the food was very sparse and calories seemed to be very low). Thank you for showing a more reasonable amount of food for an active woman.

Haha, I noticed that too! 🙂 I worry sometimes about the notes like “too hot, not hungry”. Zuzka certainly earns her lean figure but some weeks seem like too low calories to even maintain muscle mass for a non-bulky fit woman. Everyone is different though! This is a week I could probably do and not die of hanger :p

Hey Zuzka. What’s your thoughts on vegetarian and meat eating ethically, spiritually, and nutritionally? I know you tried vegetarian a while back. What made you decide to go back to meat eating? I’m an omnivore and never tried vegetarian, however I’m contemplating trying it. Would love if you could message me with links to your vids or posts where you’ve discussed this and/or links to books or websites you recommend. 😊

      Hi,
I tried eating vegetarian just because it was something I’ve never tried before, and I wanted to create my own perspective and opinion on personal experience not just a theory. I think you should give it a try to see what works for you. I don’t share the same view as Vegans when it comes to eating meat or use byproducts such as leather to make products. I think that eating animals belongs to normal circle of life. The only thing that bothers me is industrial farming. I think that’s totally wrong. I will always support old ways of farming where animals are treated with care and respect. When it comes to health, I think that vegan and vegetarian diets are questionable and I certainly didn’t like the way I felt. It’s not a diet I would want to come back to for any reason.

Thanks so much for replying so quickly Zuzka! I have shared very similar beliefs to you about vegetarianism, however got a little bit of wavering in my opinion due to researching some vegetarian belief systems, so thought I may try it. I will perhaps give it a try to see how I feel like you did and then make my decision from there health wise. I too have always believed that eating animals is the natural circle of life and life cycle in the food chain, but watching documentaries on industrial farming has left me very upset with our modern way of life. I too support traditional farming methods. Thanks Zuzka. 🙂

HI Tashak! I just wanted to help out with your thoughts on becoming a vegetarian. I have been a vegetarian for over 10 years now. My health and physical shape are excellent and I see my doctors on a regular basis. My doctors are impressed with my health and my lab works also confirm that as well. My health has not suffered but has remained excellent. With that in mind, everyone’s body is different. I had considered vegetarianism for a while due to ethical reasons that were personal to me. I slowly weaned myself off from animal proteins when I first transitioned to a vegetarian diet so my system would not be shocked. I also supplement my diet with B-12 among other things. Finding different sources of vegetable proteins is important so you get all of the proteins your body needs. My main struggle is keeping the carbs low since many vegetable source proteins can also have carbs as well. I would recommend that you do some research on a healthy vegetarian diet and communicate with your doctor. There are some nutritional values that you could miss and over time would take a toll on your energy and health. I know there are quite a few vegans and vegetarians in the Zgym that could help you out as well. My vegetarian diet is a personal decision but I made sure it was not going to be detrimental to my health in the long run. Good luck and if it does not seem right for you, that is ok. Some people in the vegetarian and vegan communities can be a little harsh and critical towards carnivores. Your diet is your business, so I hope you find what works for you.

            Hi Dayna,
Thanks for your reply. Sorry it’s taken awhile for me to get back to you – I have 15 week old twin girls and an almost 5 year old girl too. I would love to hear an example typical day of eating for you doing the zgym whilst staying vegetarian.
            Thanks,
            Tasha

Congratulations on your twin daughters and your family! I would be happy to share how I eat and work out in the Zgym. I do follow the weekly schedule (just the 1st workout each day). I work out in the morning, so after my workout, I typically have a fruit/vegetable smoothie with a scoop of vanilla whey isolate protein powder sweetened with stevia (look for clean protein powders without a bunch of chemicals). Later in the morning, I will have coffee. For lunch, I will have a salad or a veggie burger wrapped in lettuce instead of a bun. Veggie burgers already have carbs. For a mid-afternoon snack, I will enjoy some fruit or Greek yogurt. For dinner, I enjoy a bowl of soup or veggie stir-fry. I like to add tofu or tempeh to my stir-fries for some added protein & iron. I do enjoy something sweet at night, so I will have some herbal tea, low carb fruit or a frozen Greek yogurt bar. I take supplements to balance out my diet. My husband is not a vegetarian, so it take a little planning for meals, but we make it work. I do allow myself to enjoy dessert or a less healthy meal from time to time.
I hope this helps. Again, congratulations on your family!
