10 Week Arm Balance Challenge Week 5
Fitness | April 27, 2014
The latests arm balance challenge, where we were suppose to practice the Firefly was so far the most difficult for me. It’s not really such a hard pose, because even my friends that don’t do yoga are able to do the Firefly with more ease than me. I don’t like to use genetics as an excuse for a poor performance, however the truth is that the ratio between the length of my torso and my arms is a little off compared to my friends. I can’t reach the ground with my hands when I sit on the exercise mat with my legs stretched out in front of me. If you happen to have the same body type as me, the good news is that you can always use the yoga blocks to practice this pose and work on your strength and flexibility that way. Eventually you’ll be able to do the Firefly just like your long armed friends and without the help of the yoga blocks. Anyways, this week we’re going to continue to practice Firefly and a new Arm Balance Pose the 8 Angle pose.
Good luck with this challenge and I’ll see you in the ZGYM.
Best,
Zuzka.

So bummed I can’t do these. I have twinged my wrist & it hurts to do push ups, tricep dips & unfortunately arm balances. Do plan on doing them once it feels better though. You rock Z 🙂

I did it! and after a couple of weeks I got the flying pigeon yesterday. I would never have even tried this if it weren’t for you. THANKS Z!

The firefly pose is much easier is you start out in the standing position and then squat down.
This is a really great & helpful way that makes the Firefly pose much easier to accomplish! It helps to just stay in the lower squat position with your elbows pressed under your hamstrings lifting JUST your toes off the ground for a while before extending your feet completely off the ground, that way you get more confident with balancing your feet. 🙂
