Arm Balance Challenge Week 4 - Firefly

I hope you guys have been practicing for the past week and a half the 3 arm balances that we’ve learned and especially the Flying Pigeon. I have been practicing every day and even tho I didn’t spend more than 5 minutes with my practice, I still made awesome progress and today I can hold the Pigeon Pose for at least 15 seconds without a problem. It’s incredible to see what changes can be made within one week if you are being consistent. Today we’re raising the bar up with a more difficult arm balance – the Firefly.

 

 

As you can see on the video, my Firefly is far from being perfect, but it’s a good start, because I have a pretty good foundation from the previous 3 weeks of this challenge. If you are just starting I suggest that you take it from the beginning and start with week #1 – the crow pose.

The great thing about the Firefly is that you are not only working on your arm, wrist and upper body strength. It’s a great exercise for strengthening your abs and stretching your back. If you have any problems with your lower back, the I would suggest to avoid this exercise, because that might just cause you more pain or even an injury.

Take a good look at this picture of my practicing the Firefly. What I need to improve is my leg position and my arms. My arms should be completely straight and my inner thighs should be as high up on my arms as possible. My pelvis should be higher and my legs parallel to the ground and completely straight. For that, I will have to work more on my core strength, because your abs is whats going to essentially help you to round your back more and keep you in that position. Also try to widen your shoulder blades as much as possible to help with the rounded curve of your back.

    YES! I’ve been trying to practice this very pose lately…this is definitely gonna be the hardest challenge yet. I’m loving this arm balance challenge…thank you Zuzka!! 🙂

    Ciao Laura, anch’io penso Che e molto difficile, ma se continuano pure noi ce la faceremo. Ciao Zuzka it looks difficult but with practice we can make it, you know what they say. …. Practice makes perfect!! You are my inspiration and I look forward to everyday to workout with you, i do kettlebell workouts and Zwow in the morning before I go to work. I start at 5 am so I’m on the floor at 3 : 00 am because you make workouts fun. Ciao Angelina

    Hi Z!

    This challenge looks great! I admire you of what you do for us, I love your shape, flexibility. You are my hero .) I´d like to be as flexible and in the best shape with you 🙂 Unfortunately, I had injury last week, so I can´t continue with this challenge, because my arm hurts so much even if I am writing on notebook… :/ I have injury with my tendons in my right arm. So, sport is for your health… 😀 so I hope I will be able to continue this challenge for example next week, or another… Tommorow, I´d like to try exercises for lower body, lower back and core. Nothing with arms now… I listen my body 🙂

    I am really looking forward for your next videos! 🙂

    oh my G…I need also hamstring more flexible. I looove this challenge…hope you’ll do more. I especially would like to know how to get flexible enough to go in a full squat position with heels on the ground.

    Hello, Love the arm balance challenge, Im still working on the first one! Can you advise me how to do both ZCut Cardio & Strength DVDs together? Regarding the calendar workouts, how do I combine both Cardio/Strength series during the month? i love the DVDs and will buy the jumprope one soon 🙂

    Ciao Angelina. Io sto bene grazie. Io vivo a Trieste in Italia. La prima Volta che l ho vista era per puro caso.. Cercavo gli esercizi per fare meglio il push up. E sono andata a finire nella sua pagina.. E’ bravissima.. Adoro I suoi esercizi anche se alcuni sono difficile.. Amo le sue ricette.. E le mangio piu che volentieri. Ora Io mi voglio tenere in forma sia a casa ma anche in palestra. Mi piacerebbe che mi rispondesse un giorno.. Comunque e’ Una Bellissima donna..
