Camel Pose Can Make You Cry
Fitness | March 14, 2014
The Camel Pose is one of my favorite yoga postures, not only because it stretches almost all of the major muscles in my body, but it also offers so many health benefits. Watch the video to see how to do Camel Pose so that you can try it right now.
These are the health benefits of Camel Pose:
– reduces fat on your thighs
– improves your posture
– stretches your ankles, thighs, groins, abs, chest, and throat
– cures constipation
– relieves lower back pain
– stretches and strengthens your shoulders and back
– strengthens your thighs and arms
– opens up the hips and stretches deep hip flexors
Besides the fact that the Camel Pose can benefit your body, it’s also known as an “emotional pose” that brings out deep issues out to the surface. As we get older we try to act more calm and collective in order to come across as more mature to our friends, family, and everyone we come in contact with. We become slowly ashamed for our true feelings that might reveal our weaknesses or self consciousness, so we try to suppress them and bury them deep within our souls. I am sure that you’ve already heard that suppressing your feelings is not good for you and you should always find a way to let them out in healthy and positive way. The Camel Pose offers that solution and sometimes even when you’re not expecting it.
I have not been able to get these emotional benefits of this posture myself yet, but I am working on it. I think that my problem is not being able to sort of relax in my head while doing any type of back band. It just freaks me out for some reason, however I does make me feel great afterwards when I release the posture and lay down on my back. If you had any deep emotional experience with this exercise please share it with me in the comments below.
Best,
Zuzka.

Hi Zuzka
I’ve been doing yoga for a long time. I also get a little freaked out by back bending. I have however experienced real emotional release from hip openers like pigeon pose.I read somewhere that we can store emotion deep in our tissues.

Well, it didn’t make me cry but it definitely is a challenging stretch. It did make me notice the amount of tension I carry in my shoulders. I couldn’t even relax them during the stretch. I’m going to keep working on this one. Thanks, Zuz!

I just googled- why does camel pose make me want to cry? and i came across this. I love that pose I feel compelled to do it everyday even if I don’t don’t have time to do a whole yoga session. I don’t know how to explain it but when I get deep into the pose it releases a hot sensation all over my body and i feel like crying. Glad to know I’m not crazy and this is an actual thing!

Hi Zuzka,
I have been following you forever since the BodyRockTV days…Thank you for everything you are teaching us, I’m glad I found you again.
I’ve got a sort of a weird suggestion/comment for you.
Don’t take this the wrong way, I mean to write this to be helpful, if it doesn’t make sense for you ignore it and move on 🙂
When writing articles consider dropping the “the” in front of the word ZGYM…because the letter “Z” is close to “the” so Ex: instead of “go to the ZGYM” it would be “go to ZGYM”
Or a slightly more tacky version would be “Leave Z comments below”
Anyways, hope I didn’t sound annoying, just came to me when I was reading your articles, so thought I would share… I tried to find a place where to write this in private to you but didn’t find it so sorry for posting this out and about…Love your workouts and I’ve considered you my personal trainer for years

When I took yoga teacher training here in Nashville, each of us had a “pose” that was an issue , individually, for us. Mine was Camel, it made me upset. My shoulders are always tight, bad carpal tunnel, Even placing my hands on my sacrum felt sooo tight in my forearms.
One thing we were taught is that life always shows up in the body.
My teacher knelt in front of me, holding my hips as I inhaled lengthened up, exhaled lean back. Fear pops up, she looked me in the eyes and said, I got you, your safe, I got you. Tears flowed when I heard that. All of my shoulder, carpal tunnel issues is all heart chakra issues, protecting my heart, I had some secrets that I had been keeping for a long time also. She told me, instead of being afraid of this pose but to find release in it. I write this now because last week, I haven’t done yoga in a few months, just for the heck of it, I tried camel pose, absolutely no tightness, my hands grasp my ankles without issue, heart wide open. I was and still am surprised. Now, what does that mean? I’ve also lost 40 pounds recently, maybe I was carrying too much, idk.
