Fashion For Thought: Mesh and Fish Net Trends
Fashion & Beauty | June 18, 2015
I love mesh and fish net tanks and tops BUT it has to be done right, am I right?
It’s become a popular trend the last couple years to add mesh accents to fitness apparel. Just a little mesh can add a lot of design and style to an otherwise basic athletic tank. I really like the back accents in these tops. The mesh also allows for better performance, it let’s your body breath and if your back gets super sweaty when you work out, it doesn’t look as obvious 😉
You have to be careful if you like to shop online. Make sure you see it pictured on a model (if you can’t try it on yourself) because the fit isn’t always accurate. The black example below looks athletic and modest on paper but then you could try it on and (depending on your body type) it could be pretty sexy and revealing.
The other floral one I might hesitate to buy because it looks like it would appear see through if you put it on but then you see it on the model and it looks pretty cute I think.
These styles aren’t for everyone, the same shirt can look totally different on different people. Some women have the shape and look to pull off mesh and fish net without looking like they’re for sale. Other than that it’s all about choosing the right color and the right size/fit for your specific body type and skin tone. I personally think the most important thing to be aware of is what you wear under it, it should be subtle and accent the color of the tank or maybe a bright color under a dark tank – not sure I like the bright fish net over a dark bra…
None of these 3 above would be my personal choice, but check out the one below.
This is Lorna Jane of course so that’s probably why I like it 🙂 that woman has a good taste.
Confidnece is really important no matter what you wear, if you feel fit and confident, you can pull off anything! What do you think, do you have any favorite mesh tops you love (if so, share pictures in the comment section below) OR are you the kind that feels like maybe it’s not for you? Do you have any funny stories to share from bad online purchases?

I have a Lorna Jane black mesh top that has the sides cut out. I love it because even though the sides are cut out, it looks classy and super cute with a bright bra or tank underneath.

I loved and tried Fabletics Rhodes Capri, but the issue is also that the fabrics stretch difference , moreover the seam that is required may pucker and add some uncomfortable tension. I am not keeping that capri mostly because the mesh feels kind of scratchy on my thigh.

I love interesting workout clothes. Wearing brand new and fancy kit does have a pretty powerful effect.
I am quite hooked on Lorna Jane’s line, which I first learned about from your site Zuzka (a thousand thank-you’s for that!), you are very right in saying she has good taste 🙂
Recently I found a line called SychoFit and they have some very creative and beautiful back cut-outs for their workout bras – ordered the lot of them!

I’ve been wearing fishnets and mesh since I was the “goth girl” in school ^.^. Soo..the past 15 years I’ve been a mesh/net lover. I love how fashion has incorporated it into workout styles because majority of my clothes are athletic clothes now..haha. 🙂

I love mesh. It’s so retro 80s when I was a teen. But back in the day being from a small Texas town you had to be careful how you layered it so you didn’t get sent home from school to change. 😉

The Lorna Jane Pixie Excel top in grey in my FAVORITE! The grey looks amazing with any color sports bra. It is so comfortable. You would look amazing in it Z. It is by far my favorite Lorna Jane piece. And she is my favorite activewear by far.
