My Beauty Routine - Oil Pulling and More Discussed in the Latest Coffee Talk Video!

Fashion & Beauty | July 21, 2015

OIl_pulling_beuty_rituals

I get a lot of questions from people asking what I do for beauty routines and so I did a short video demonstrating some of my habits and things I’ve tried recently.  I had a good laugh shooting this so I hope you like it too 🙂

I’ve read comments from you guys asking if I’ve ever heard about or done Oil Pulling and the answer is yes, I’ve been doing it for a while and I think it’s great. If you haven’t done it yet you should try it.  You’re going to want to do it consistently for at least 10 days to really see and feel a difference I think.  I get compliments about how healthy my gums look and I attribute it to this routine.

Oil Pulling – just 15-20 minutes a day (while you’re watching tv or reading).  When you’re done spit it in your garbage (won’t clog your sink).
Benefits of oil pulling

  • Gets rid of plaque and bad bacteria in your mouth
  • Helps with stinky breath
  • Inflammation in your gums
*you can use any kind of healthy oil – I like coconut oil because it has a pleasant tastes best and contains  lauric acid that has antibacterial properties!

Thrive Market is doing a promo right now where new customers can get a free 15 oz jar of jar of coconut oil.  All you can to do it pay $1.95 shipping (you also get a free 30-day membership and a $15 gift card towards a future purchase).  If you’re already a member though don’t worry because existing members can just receive 10% off and get a new jar of coconut oil for super cheap still.

Gentle Exfoliation – I use a soft facial brush to gently scrub my face every day. (mine is vitagoods)
Benefits of facial exfoliation

  • Helps shrink pores
  • Gets rid of blackheads
  • Improved blood circulation

Mud mask – I do this about twice a week (the one I like is ellavage). Cover your face, let it dry for about 10 minutes then rinse with warm water

Benefits of the detoxifying mask
  • Contains vitamins, minerals, fatty and amino acids
  • Helps soften skin to give it a more youthful appearance
  • Contains acai extract that helps even out skin tones

Botanical wraps – watch the video to watch how my experience went.  It was fun to do and smelled really good, it left my skin feeling smooth and hydrated but truthfully I don’t believe it does anything for changing your body composition. If you want to check it out yourself, these are the wraps I used.

That was such a cute funny video! I love the end part too, Jesse’s look of slight disgust when you put the coconut oil in your mouth lol! It is the exact reaction my boyfriend would have if he was watching me do all of this like, “what the hell are you doing…?!” Even just straightening my hair in front of him, I lost all of my hair clips so I had parts rolled up in hair ties at the top and holding the rest between my lips to keep it out of the way while I straightened other parts, he just stared like he couldn’t even understand lol then laughed at me cause I looked like a messed up princess Leia. Beauty routines don’t ever look beautiful but the after shots are great! 😉 I’ll definitely be trying that facial brush, it looks like it feels great!
For my routine I love to drench my hair in coconut oil and pin it up leaving it in for 45 min to an hour twice a month, I’ll use Aztecs Secret Bentonite Indian Healing clay as a mask on my face at least once a week (my face feels really refreshed and clean after!). On a daily basis I’ll just all acure products for my face such as their skin brightening scrub, day/night creams and a skin brightening cream as well as using witch hazel for my toner. My face always feels so good! So soft and supple 🙂 And for an all over body softening treatment I’ll liberally apply coconut oil all over before going to bed so it soaks into my skin all night. I’m so soft the next day!

This is great. I saw a video, I think on Facebook, where Zuzka put a coconut oil scrub on her body while sitting in the sauna. I think I may do it tomorrow 😉 although I’m wondering if it’s good just to let your skin breathe and leave it bare so your skin can release waste while in the sauna, too. Gotta hit the sauna more often for sure.

I have been doing the oil pulling for a long time since it’s the only natural, non-toxic technique that seems to work for keeping my teeth white. I always wonder though if that daily continuous swishing ritual might bring on premature wrinkling on my upper lip and I worry about it… You know, like smokers get on theirs… Maybe I just worry too much… Any thoughts on that?

this was so funny !! You made my day, Z. ! Love to you and Jessie!

I get so lazy with my routine, I do love a sugar scrub once every 3 days, and use a dab of coconut oil as my moisturizer. otherwise I wash my face in my everyday shower, but the products I used are starting to feel plastic-y to me now, it’s time for a better skin care line !

So I got the brush two days ago. (it is the ToiletTree system, which had good reviews and ratings on Amazon, I thought). I used the facial brush yesterday and the day before, and also the body brush last night on the parts of my body that I could reach. So convenient for the bikini area where I shave (to prevent ingrowns…waxing is a disaster for me because I have curly hair). It also came with the pumice stone piece, which worked on my heels. 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂

I swear my face already looks so different. Very even tone and the pores on my nose are smaller. I started using Vita-Moisture Supreme Cream, made by Herbal Products & Development. I know the man who owns this company and formuates his products. He lives in Aptos, California (just south of Santa Cruz) and makes VERY HIGH QUALITY herbal products and supplements. This ingredients are: Whole leaf aloe vera conc. w/ oat, horsetail & nettle extracts, meadowfoam & rose hip seed oils, silica gel, saccharide isomerate, Ester C, liposome delivery system, CoQ10 complex, borage & evening primrose oils, lycopene, vitamins A & E, oat beta glucan, sodium hydroxymethyl glycinate, glyceryl stearate, vegetable cetyl alcohol & squalene, AHA, BHA, deionized water, natural essential oils.

Pretty amazing ingredients. My face looks so different. Like the exfloliation allows these ingredients to really penetrate and do some work.

I also got the Acure Brightening Facial Scrub, which has argan stem cells and chlorella growth factor (whatever that is…haha). It’s got real nice ingredients, mostly organic, too, very scrubby. I used it with the brush….

Ohh Z, you englightened me on how I can exfoliate better. That is my main problem. I guess my ancestors were meant to roll around in the Mediterranean beach sand all the time or something. 🙂

I try to do oil pulling when I first wake up. The coffee is already made so I forget to oil pull right away sometimes . One of wise girlfriends in the know says it’s best to flush out the waste that accumulated in our mouth while we sleep before swallowing it all back down again. I oil pull, floss and brush straight away. That way it’s done. I need to put a sign on my coffee pot to oil pull first ✋🙅🏻‍♀️

Although I can definitely see doing it at night, too. Yes, getting rid of all that stuff that accumulated during the day seems like a great idea before hopping in bed with your husband ❤️
