Deodorants That Actually Work
Fashion & Beauty | March 31, 2016
The deodorant I had been using for a long time is Dove clinical protection – it’s actually the only store bought deodorant that works for me. The other deodorants from a drug store don’t stop me from sweating.
I’ve done some research to see if the rumors about deodorants being harmful for us is true. I found different opinions:
The National Cancer Institute have posted information on their website about the research that has been done on deodorants and antiperspirants as it relates to cancer. The article suggests we don’t have to be worried, as there’s not enough evidence that breast cancer can be caused by these products.
Time magazine has published an article that points out the fact that unless a chemical is proven to be harmful, the regulators will let us eat it, drink it, smoke it, or rub it into our skin. The problem that scientists are facing is that it’s not only difficult to come up with a solid evidence that a chemical is actually harmful, it’s also extremely costly.
I’m not someone to spread an irrational fear about using a product, but I have to say, that after reading all those articles I decided to switch to all natural deodorants. I knew I will probably have to try a few before I find one that works and keeps me from sweating, but to my surprise I was lucky to find two that get the job done.
The first all natural deodorant I tried is from Soapwalllakitchen.com which has a pleasant herbal scent and does really work, however it is not a roll on and you have to apply it like a cream into your armpit. Also I have used the deodorant right after I shaved and it burned a lot and for quite a long time. If you apply it any other time, it doesn’t burn.
The second all natural deodorant is from LoveFresh.com (Mandarin Lime scent) which is my absolute favorite. It’s baking soda free for sensitive skin and you can apply it right after you shave without having to worry that it’s going to scalp your armpits 🙂

Glad you covered this topic. I’ve tried several myself and it’s hard to find one that is anti-perspiring, not just deodorizing. I’ve heard that it’s the actual bacteria on the skin that produces the smell,so if you can keep them free from sweat long enough that seems to help. I’ve also heard that it takes time (several weeks) for your body to adapt, so if you change deoderants, or give it up completely( strange, I know…maybe navy seals can do that) the odor/sweat will lessen over time. It’s the salt that is stinging you after you’ve shaved. I’m a massage therapist and I tell my clients to choose a sugar based body polish after they have shaved their legs or else they will set themselves on fire! : )
Thanks for the article….good info!

I appreciate this. I make one with baking soda that works for me but it isn’t an anti-perspirant. I have sensitive armpits and they have been happier since I stopped using the regular ones. I do use them if I’m going out or special occasions. I will try the ones you recommend.

Hi Zuzana, thanks for posting about deodorant. My husband and I own a company called Love Myself Organics and we make an all-natural, organic deodorant that REALLY works! There is a ton of info on our website about us and why we created this natural deodorant – in a nut shell, I bought about every ‘natural’ deodorant on the market and never found anything that worked…so I created it :-). I would love to send you a few so you can try them out. Our deodorant is so pure…you can eat it! Please check us out at http://www.LoveMyselfOrganics.com and send us a PM and I will send you one of each of our scents for you to try. Thanks, Tammy

Thanks so much for covering this. It’s not something I hear much about but it is worrisome.

I’ve been trying different natural (or homemade) deodorants for a number of years now. I’ve never had an antiperspirant (even the chemical laden ones that I used to use) that has fully worked…and to make matters worse, those eventually got to where they were ruining my shirts with sticky gunk. Also, hearing so much scientists from both sides…it got frustrating knowing who to trust. So I quit using those. :-p (lol, I don’t mind if I sweat: I just don’t want to stink and I just don’t want to throw out shirts 😉 )
Seems like I’ll try something and it will work great for a while…then I have to move on to something else. Currently, I’m using home-made spritz deodorant with witch hazel for a base with some drops of lime essential oil along with the tiniest bit of sage essential oil (both I’ve read is good for keeping sweat stink away). I’ve found aloe vera (as long as it’s just plain aloe) added to the mix goes a long way to prevent stink (and sometimes limit sweat), too. Along with a clean diet, it seems to work on most days!
I’m always on the lookout for new natural deodorants to try (lol, “super-natural”…I LOVE it!). Thank you so much for sharing! I’d love to give that a try! 😀

I have the one from Rexona, same packaging, and I think same product as the Dove one (which was in stores here after the Rexona). I also feel it is the only one to stop me from smelling awful, some time ago I forgot to put it on and it remembered me how I smelled when puberty was happening and eversince :/…. no normal deo did the job until I discovered this…. and I don’t care too much about the panicking about the ingredients…. burning armpits are also not healthy I guess… and a walk through the city or sitting next to a smoking person is more dangerous to my health I think… life will kill you…. but I’d rather not sweat and smell until it happens… ;), but the 3. one sounds interesting to try, I love lime scent products!

Hi Guys!
I use Schmidts Natural Deodorant – all natural and smells fantastic. It’s a cream that you apply, but its about $8-11 for two ounces. You won’t have to worry about your health. I’ve tried A TON of natural ones and this is the only one that prevents odor development. Hope it helps 🙂

I use Herban Cowboy, Natural For Her, in Blossom. I usually prefer unscented, but this is a light pleasant smell. It’s a regular stick that you just rub on using the applicator. I have been really happy with this, and buy it at Whole Foods. The first one I tried was Tom’s, but it was sticky and I didn’t like it at all. I’ve read that aluminum in anti-perspirants may stop sweating, but actually cause more body odor when they wear off. The all natural deodorants do not prevent sweating, but I haven’t had any odor at all. Loving it!

Oh no, don’t make me worry about using an antiperspirant…I can’t stand that wet feeling in my arm pits! Sigh…..it’s always something….
