Deodorants That Actually Work
Fashion & Beauty | March 31, 2016
The deodorant I had been using for a long time is Dove clinical protection – it’s actually the only store bought deodorant that works for me. The other deodorants from a drug store don’t stop me from sweating.
I’ve done some research to see if the rumors about deodorants being harmful for us is true. I found different opinions:
The National Cancer Institute have posted information on their website about the research that has been done on deodorants and antiperspirants as it relates to cancer. The article suggests we don’t have to be worried, as there’s not enough evidence that breast cancer can be caused by these products.
Time magazine has published an article that points out the fact that unless a chemical is proven to be harmful, the regulators will let us eat it, drink it, smoke it, or rub it into our skin. The problem that scientists are facing is that it’s not only difficult to come up with a solid evidence that a chemical is actually harmful, it’s also extremely costly.
I’m not someone to spread an irrational fear about using a product, but I have to say, that after reading all those articles I decided to switch to all natural deodorants. I knew I will probably have to try a few before I find one that works and keeps me from sweating, but to my surprise I was lucky to find two that get the job done.
The first all natural deodorant I tried is from Soapwalllakitchen.com which has a pleasant herbal scent and does really work, however it is not a roll on and you have to apply it like a cream into your armpit. Also I have used the deodorant right after I shaved and it burned a lot and for quite a long time. If you apply it any other time, it doesn’t burn.
The second all natural deodorant is from LoveFresh.com (Mandarin Lime scent) which is my absolute favorite. It’s baking soda free for sensitive skin and you can apply it right after you shave without having to worry that it’s going to scalp your armpits 🙂

Hey guys, I stopped using commercial products for deodorant or anti-perspiration. I’m using natural stuff. It crystal alum, the rock. If I bought a big Rock it will last me for over 5 years. Since I’ve been using it for years now, even if I forgot to apply it, I don’t stink. Very cheap and really really works for me. Z, thanks for sharing this.

I like to use the unscented Primal Pit Paste and add tea tree oil to it. I also like to switch it up with PiperWei. Both are completely non-toxic deodorants. The PiperWei one uses activated charcoal to absorb the sweat so it seems like an anti-antiperspirant. Also, I would recommend to everyone to do a detox on their armpits. I used this one (http://wellnessmama.com/25432/detox-your-armpits/). Basically since you are now in the USA, you are exposed to way more chemicals and toxins than you were in Canada or Europe. It is just how it is here with lack of chemical regulations. And since you live in LA, you have the smog problem to deal with as well. So anytime you can reduce your toxic load, do it. You live a healthy lifestyle, it just seems natural to make your environment and products you use externally also as non-toxic as possible. Another great resource you can use to get a good and trustworthy rating on your skincare products is the use the Environmental Working Groups (EWG) scores.(http://www.ewg.org/skindeep/) Here are how your products rate:
Dove Clinical Protection: 4 (the fragrance is the most toxic thing in it)
http://www.ewg.org/skindeep/product/534349/Dove_Clinical_Protection_Anti-Perspirant_Deodorant_Solid_Original_Clean/
Soap Walla Deodarant Cream is not yet listed, though the kitchen products they do have listed are rated 1 (which is best and least toxic)
Lovefresh is also not listed and they have zero products listed to compare.
I hope this helps.

Hi Zuska!
Thank you so much for being such an inspiration for me to workout and for sharing parts of your life with us too! This question actually isn’t about deodorant but about sports bras. Do you think you could do a video about where you get your sports bras? I really love the ones you wear. They’re super cute!
