DIY Exfoliating Skin Care Scrub

Fashion & Beauty | April 30, 2015

I really like to experiment with DIY recipes for skin care because some products on the market can be unnecessarily expensive especially some “all-natural” ones because a lot of times the active ingredients can be found in your own pantry.  I made this coffee exfoliating scrub recently and I really like it so I wanted to share with you guys.  It’s really simple, there are only 4 ingredients: coffee, coconut oil, brown sugar and sea salt.

Ingredients:

4 Tbsp ground coffee

4 Tbsp brown sugar

2 Tbsp Coconut Oil

1 Tbsp sea salt

All you have to do is grind the coffee and mix together the ingredients.  I have a coffee grinder because I typically buy whole beans and grind it myself for fresh coffee but if you don’t have one you just use any coffee you have.  The more coarse the coffee is, the more effective it is at exfoliating and removing dead skin.  It’s easiest to use coconut oil that is at room temperature, more liquid form, so it’s soft and easy to mix.  The amount I made with the ingredients above was enough to use for your whole body at 1 time.  You could also double or triple the amounts and make some to store in a mason jar and store it in your bathroom closet for future use.

The most important element of this scrub I think is the coconut oil.  Coconut oil is really good for moisturizing, not only your skin but your hair.  Sometimes I like to just use plain coconut and let it set in my hair for a few minutes while I’m in the shower before I rinse it out and use my shampoo and conditioner, it helps my hair feel soft and smooth and healthy.

This coffee scrub is quite messy so I recommend taking it into the bathtub or shower with you, rubbing it on your skin and letting it sit for a 5-7 minutes before rinsing it away.  Plus, I personally like the smell of it BUT it did kind of make me feel like I had spent the day working as a coffee barista and then I went to the tanning salon.  The coffee and coconut oil together remind me of tanning lotion a little bit?! I did like how my skin felt after though, very healthy and soft.  I don’t know about you but I feel refreshed after a good scrub.  Do any of you guys have DIY skin care recipes you want to share with me? If you try this one, let me know what you think 🙂

I used this recipe today and I personally loved it! One batch will do my whole body twice. I’m 5’8″ 135 lbs and I used it liberally. It smells wonderful to me and I don’t notice any smell after washing it off. My skin is super soft now. I’ll definitely be using this again! More recipes like this pleeeeaaase!!
