DIY Exfoliating Skin Care Scrub
Fashion & Beauty | April 30, 2015
I really like to experiment with DIY recipes for skin care because some products on the market can be unnecessarily expensive especially some “all-natural” ones because a lot of times the active ingredients can be found in your own pantry. I made this coffee exfoliating scrub recently and I really like it so I wanted to share with you guys. It’s really simple, there are only 4 ingredients: coffee, coconut oil, brown sugar and sea salt.
Ingredients:
4 Tbsp ground coffee
4 Tbsp brown sugar
2 Tbsp Coconut Oil
1 Tbsp sea salt
All you have to do is grind the coffee and mix together the ingredients. I have a coffee grinder because I typically buy whole beans and grind it myself for fresh coffee but if you don’t have one you just use any coffee you have. The more coarse the coffee is, the more effective it is at exfoliating and removing dead skin. It’s easiest to use coconut oil that is at room temperature, more liquid form, so it’s soft and easy to mix. The amount I made with the ingredients above was enough to use for your whole body at 1 time. You could also double or triple the amounts and make some to store in a mason jar and store it in your bathroom closet for future use.
The most important element of this scrub I think is the coconut oil. Coconut oil is really good for moisturizing, not only your skin but your hair. Sometimes I like to just use plain coconut and let it set in my hair for a few minutes while I’m in the shower before I rinse it out and use my shampoo and conditioner, it helps my hair feel soft and smooth and healthy.
This coffee scrub is quite messy so I recommend taking it into the bathtub or shower with you, rubbing it on your skin and letting it sit for a 5-7 minutes before rinsing it away. Plus, I personally like the smell of it BUT it did kind of make me feel like I had spent the day working as a coffee barista and then I went to the tanning salon. The coffee and coconut oil together remind me of tanning lotion a little bit?! I did like how my skin felt after though, very healthy and soft. I don’t know about you but I feel refreshed after a good scrub. Do any of you guys have DIY skin care recipes you want to share with me? If you try this one, let me know what you think 🙂

I love this scrub. I have made it before in a large quantity but found it went bad. An easy way to preserve it longer is to add a few drops of your favorite essential oil (with the added benefit of a delicious aroma other than coffee 🙂

I just tried the scrub and I really love it! It’s moderately abrasive and leaves my skin still soft and moisturized. Plus, I adore the lovely coffee fragrance. *w*
This is definitely becoming one of my all time favorite scrubs! Thanks again, Zuzka!

I enjoy ‘spa’ days at home. I deep conditioned my hair and tried the scrub. My skin is so smooth! Supposedly coffee is supposed to help with cellulite but my skin looks and feels lovely. I saved the coffee grounds from my coffee maker and let it dry out. I used a little less salt because for me salt is a bit harsh. My coconut oil was solid but I thought that melting it would dissolve the mixture. So I added a little sweet almond oil which helped to moisten it. I also added a little vanilla essential oil. So it smelled like cocoa cake. Now I’m off to give myself a facial before Game of Thrones comes on.

I make a similar scrub but add a little almond oil with the other 4 ingredients & I reuse my ground coffee from the day before just scoop it out of the filter spread out on a sheet pan to dry used ground coffee then mix together in a jar..

I am very much into home-made cares recently. I bougth a bunch of things , but now don’t how to prepare the potions and lotions coz it feels too much may kill the effect?! it all started with looking for tips to help heal stretchmarks and saggy skin.
I have been using these last days a mixture of cocoa butter, coconut oil, aloe vera and some oils like grapeseed oil, argan oil and Chile musk rose oil. I mass my tummy morning and evening in a pinch-roll movement.
the next tentative will be using mask (for tummy too) that uses clay. I did order the Rassoul (morroccon red clay). we’ll see.

Wow, I just tried it, and it was GREAT! The best scrub ever! 🙂 I used it all over my body and my face. I loved the feeling of the scrub on my hands and even more the feeling of soft and a little bit oily skin afterwards. And my face looks really nice and refreshed now, so thanks a lot for this great and simple recipe!
Greetings from Slovenia! 🙂
