Faux Bob

Fashion & Beauty | December 11, 2014

Hi guys,

Here’s another tip from Jesse German, the most amazing and sought after hair stylist in Hollywood. He’s worked with some huge celebrities (check out his website), and now is going to give us another tip on how to easily create a faux bob out of long hair, which you can wear to the New Year’s Party! 🙂 First of all you need to start with curling your hair which doesn’t need to take long, if you do  Jesse’s method.

Blow out hair with UNITE volumizing mouse Curl hair and spray with UNITE dry texturizing spray.

1

Clip up the crown of the hair (if you have layers, if it’s one length skip this step).

3

Rubber band the ends of the hair in four sections.

4

5

6

Hold the end of a small piece of hair and push the rest of the hair upwards on all 4 sections.

2

Use a bobby pin to secure the remaining ends inside the bob.

7

Drop down the top section allowing the layers to fall over the bob to accentuate loose uneven weight line.

8

Touch up curls around the face and spray for hold with UNITE finishing spray and mist with KEVIN MURPHY glossing spray.

9

I really love that I can make my long hair look short and change my look in just a few minutes. Thank you Jesse for another great tip!

Hi Zuzka, I was reading that we shouldn’t shampoo our hair everyday (two or three times a week is fine). Chemicals in the most shampoos thin and damage our hair and just using water to rinse it should be enough. What do you think?

Tell it to my greasy hair 🙂 I tried just water, but that doesn’t get rid off the oils. I think it’s better to find some natural products that are more gentle to our hair then not washing them, when it’s obviously needed 🙂 lol

Zuzka, I also have a problem with greasy hair. I have a lot of hair but it is fine, similar to yours. But since I switched to a sulphate free shampoo, that is “98% plant derived, pure vegan, paraben free” etc .. my scalp does not get as greasy like it used to and as fast as it used to. And I noticed that my hair does not shed as much with a sulphate free shampoo as it does with a regular shampoo. The brand I used is by “Live Clean” and it is the one called “PINK FIRE” color protect shampoo. If you cannot find in L.A. then I would go to Sephora and ask them to give you as many samples as possible of the sulphate free shampoos etc. Good luck!

I’ll have to look up that brand! 🙂 I use a natural shampoo, as well…no parabens, sulphates, or any of those bad chemicals…and it works great for me, using it every day. I have to wash my hair every day — if I don’t, I get a horrible, all-day headache. :-/

Ha ha, oily hair they said was a reaction of your scalp to over shampooing. 🙂 But, I also try to use shampoo with less sulfates. But…then I also have very short hair and non on top.! 🙂

I have been using Wen for about 4 years and I couldn’t live without it. I cringe when the salon uses shampoo on my hair. I still wash my hair almost daily because I workout and sweat everyday with Z, but it is so much healthier for it! And colored hair last 4x longer. Lots of people claim they only need to wash their hair once a week with Wen. Yes it costs $$ but I order mine through QVC for the best deals. Just make sure you use the recommended amount even if it seems extreme. It works! 🙂

I’ve been trying a shampoo free routine recently. Everything that I have read says that there is a transitional period while the body adjusts and that hair can be pretty oily during this time because your body is used to producing more oil (because shampoo dries out your scalp). I’ve been using a mixture of brewed green tea and honey to wash and following with an apple cider vinegar rinse to condition. (Sometimes I combine the tea/honey and vinegar into one mixture if I’m feeling lazy) After about a month or so, I’ve noticed that my scalp is no longer itchy and dry the way it used to be (I live in a pretty dry climate) A lot of people use baking soda to shampoo and then the vinegar rinse, but I’ve read that the baking soda can be very damaging to hair.

I’ve gone without shampoo for two and a half weeks now and thoroughly rinse my hair with plain warm water every other day (sometimes every day if I do a lot of sports). I went through a bit of a greasy phase for the first week, but it normalized after that and no one at work or in my family has told me that my hair smells or looks weird (which I feared most when I started this “experiment”).
When I touch the roots of my hair I can still feel a subtle hint of the oils but it actually feels like they make my hair smoother and stronger. I’d like to continue to not use soap until the end of the month to see if and how my hair has changed but for now I’m pretty satisfied since I lose a lot less hair when I brush it.

And by “soap” I clearly mean “shampoo”. >_<

Have you thought about trying the baking soda and vinegar method? You mix equal parts baking soda and water and work it through your hair first, then rinse. Then mix equal parts water and vinegar, work it through your hair and rinse. The vinegar solution is actually the conditioning component. Not having bubbles takes a little getting used to but your hair will be clean and soft, and it won’t reek of vinegar. 🙂
