How Much Do You Spend on Skin Care?
Fashion & Beauty | June 11, 2014
The idiom “you get what you pay for” means something that is very low in price is not usually of very good quality. Like with everything, sometimes it’s true, sometimes it’s not. We all have our own experiences and points of view as customers. Do you think that you really get what you pay for when it comes to skin care products, and how much do you spend on a good quality moisturizer?
Everyone has their own skin care rituals. Some people use the same exact product for years and would not even think about trying anything new. Some like to experiment and go from product to product regardless of the price. How about you? Do you have your own favorite skin care products? What are your rituals and what is the price range that you are willing to consider when shopping for your creams and serums?

I like to buy products that are cruelty-free, and I research the ingredients to make sure they are toxic-free( or less toxic). Sometimes I make my own.

My favorites are organic and all natural skin care products. I use Raw Love Body, Living Libations, Theives and homemade ones as well. Never any chemicals or harmful ingredients

Currently I stuck with israelian brand ONmacabim – not very low in price though, but I like the quality, especially their light peeling for home use. And of course cleansers – the best! Also I use hylauronic acid, israelien one considered as the best as well.

As a cosmetic formulator by trade I can assure you there are good products at all price points. My favorite face wash is from my cosmetic dermatologist. I love a light moisturizer during the summer. I use nars tinted moisturizer for day time (SPF). I also always wash my face before bed and use makeup remover wipes when needed. One of the best products for clearing up mild break outs is Shiseido Blemish Clearing gel. Well worth the money and a product on MY must have list.
For every day use I love love love Jergen’s lotion with Cocoa butter.
I can go on and on and on. This is my favorite topic (besides fitness lol)

Hello Zuzanna! I try use only natural ingridients only, example for me is essential oils and base oils and different natural masks. I use olive with essential rose oil, if buy real natural essential oil – is not cheap. But this concentrate of good ingridients is soo good. I have only two rules, is care face regularly (this rule work for everything, no meter cheap cosmetic you use or no) and second – to do massage and face muscles exercises. I think that face is like body, if you do exercises in 65 years old and your body looks soo great why this rules can’t work for face? I’m 28 but i want check this. 🙂

I have an extremley frugal partner who cant understand why i spend so much on skin care/make up hair products. Since having kids I have cut down on all of it dramatically. Now though I have a variety of skin conditions from eczema, seb dermatitis, chicken skin, peri-oral dermatitis I have to be more careful. I so far can only use cetaphil cleanser (Less than $10 a bottle that lasts me forever), a $3.95 moisturizer, ACV as toner. Due to all of my annoying skin conditions I cant even use normal shampoo and am now using the no poo method and bicarb soda and ACV rinse… and Diluted Hydrogen peroxide as a scalp treatment once a week or so depending how bad my skin is.

Hey Michelle,
I’m a holistic nutritionist and it looks as though you have either a cosmetic allergy or food allergy(gies).
Perhaps you may entertain the possibility of having yourself tested.
In health,

Natasha, where/ who should I go to for testing? Ive seen a dermo here in Australia but he didnt seem to listen. A naturopath once suggested that there would be an underlying issue to all my skin problems… I think they mentioned something like inflammation but never heard anything else

Hi Zuzka! I use cruelty-free and natural products, I pay attention to the ingredients and I’ve been seeing improvements in my skin. I suffered from acne and dermatitis, natural products improved a lot my skin situation. So I don’t care about brands, labels or whatever, I just read the ingredients, I don’t choose toxic and petroleum moisturizer and I’m well!

I have Dry/sensitive skin prone to hormonal acne however as it’s summer it’s more “normal.”
I really don’t find their to be much of a difference between high end and cheap skincare, especially in regards to moisturizers. I think a lot for the time your paying more for the brand name, better packaging and for the premium customer service you get at the counters.
I use La Roche-Posey Effaclar MAT (£14) in the morning, I was given this, and Boots vitamin e moisture day cream (£2.50) in the evening.
The La Roche-Posey moisturizes lightly, so its good to use before makeup and the Boots one is heavier but ideal for summer nights.
